In Loving Memory

Tommy Wetterman
November 11, 1956 — June 20, 2026
In loving memory of Tommy Wetterman, who peacefully passed away in his sleep on June 20, 2026, at the age of 69. Born on November 11, 1956, in Victorville, CA, Tommy lived a life full of adventure, love, and dedication to his family, his community, and his passions.
Tommy was the beloved son of Don and Nola Wetterman, who preceded him in death, along with his brother David, brother-in-law Donald Charles, son Tucker, and great-grandchild affectionately known as "Jelly Bean" Mendoza. Tommy is survived by his devoted wife of 32 years, Jeanne; his loving stepmother Florine Wetterman; his adoring children Patchen (Jason Tripp), Cody (Jessica Wetterman), Colton (Rebecca Wetterman), and step-son Shane (Kristiana Meek). He will be dearly missed by his siblings: brother Donald (Mary Wetterman), sister Catherine Wetterman, brother Robert (Denise Wetterman), sister Julie (Tony Heggenberger), sister Christina Holt, and brother Joseph Wetterman. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren: Bailey Griffith, Payton Griffith, Brayden Wetterman; Clayton Wetterman, Wyatt Wetterman, Fayth Wetterman, Blayne Wetterman, Matthew Wetterman; Paizley Wetterman, Roanie Wetterman, Piper Wetterman; Tristan Dellos, and Kellen Meek, and two precious great-grandchildren.
Tommy’s life was a testament to his unyielding spirit and dedication. A graduate of Barstow High School in 1975, Tommy pursued his passion for firefighting through fire science classes at Victor Valley College. His early entrepreneurial spirit shone through in his high school business, Tom’s Hay Loading. He volunteered tirelessly for the Hinkley Volunteer Fire Department and worked in his Uncle Danny’s rodeo production, Pitchfork Ranch, showcasing his talents in managing stock, bullfighting, and rodeo clowning.
His adventurous spirit led him to a remarkable career in the film industry, where he doubled for actors like Clint Eastwood and appeared in iconic productions such as "Honkytonk Man", "The Titanic", and as one of the Marlboro men in “The New Hand.” Tommy’s work with the Lane Ranch Motion Picture and Wells Fargo’s history department allowed him to combine his love for horses with his talents, driving and displaying Wells Fargo stagecoaches at prestigious events all over the US including the Pasadena Rose Parade.
Tommy’s heart, however, was always with his community. He served diligently as a captain for the Hinkley Fire Department, a role that expanded when it joined the San Bernardino County Fire Department in 1985. His 21-year service was one of his greatest accomplishments and joys, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to protecting and serving others.
Even amidst his numerous commitments, Tommy was a devoted cattleman, passionately ranching in the Mojave Desert and later in Encino, NM. His love for the land and the lifestyle was evident until his health no longer allowed him to continue.
Tommy was an active member of the First Baptist Church Estancia and was deeply involved in 4-H and FFA, both as a youth and as a leader when his children participated. As a member of the Mojave Desert Cattlemen’s Association, he fostered a strong community spirit.
Known for his big stature, smile, and even bigger ideas, Tommy could bring warmth and joy to everyone he met. He was an enthusiastic cook, always ready to share a meal and a story with family and friends.
A service to honor Tommy’s remarkable life will be held on June 27, 2026, at 4:00 PM at the New Mexico Baptist Children’s Home in Estancia, located at 19 Salt Mission Trail, Estancia, NM 87016. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to "Sponsor a Student to go to Summer Camp" at this link.
The Wetterman family extends their deepest gratitude to all who have expressed heartfelt condolences and offered support during this difficult time. Tommy’s memory will forever be cherished by those who knew and loved him.
