Tommy Cody

June 23, 1944 — August 21, 2026

Tommy Cody, cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, peacefully departed this life at his home on August 21, 2026. Born on June 23, 1944, in Bradley, Arkansas, Tommy was the beloved son of James and Hazel Cody. Tommy was a man of great integrity and warmth, whose presence was a blessing to all who knew him. He pursued higher education at Sam Houston State University, where he cultivated a lifelong love of learning and music, becoming a proud member of Phi Mu Alpha. His career as a Risk Manager saw him serve with dedication and distinction in several city governments, including the cities of Odessa and Shreveport. For 62 beautiful years, Tommy was married to the love of his life, Lucy Cody, a union that was a testament to enduring love and partnership. Together, they built a family filled with love and laughter. Tommy's legacy lives on in his children, Melissa Cooke and her husband Charlie, and Jeffrey Cody and his wife Shelly. He was a proud and doting grandfather to five grandchildren: Ivana Cobb, Caster Cooke, Jane Cooke, Callie Cody and Cora Cody. His brother, James Cody, also survives him, continuing the strong family bonds that were so important to Tommy. Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, James and Hazel Cody, and his brother, Bill Cody. Despite the loss, his memory continues to inspire and guide those he left behind. A man of varied interests, Tommy found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid reader, a fan of John Wayne movies, and loved to travel, but above all, he cherished spending time with his family. His kindness and gentle spirit were evident to all who had the privilege of knowing him. Tommy was also a member of PRIMA and devoted his time to various community activities. His contributions to his community were appreciated by many and will be remembered fondly. A service to celebrate Tommy's life will be held on September 12, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church of Baton Rouge, located at 8484 Old Hammond Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA. The family would appreciate donations in Tommy's memory to the First Christian Church of Baton Rouge, a place that held a special place in his heart. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate nurses from Audubon Hospice: Zhanna Bennett, Crystal Barbazon, and caregivers Katrina Clark, and Beverly Perkins, for their exceptional care and kindness during Tommy's final days. Tommy Cody will be remembered for his unwavering love, loyalty, and the warmth that he brought into every room. His spirit will continue to live on in the hearts and memories of all those he touched.
