Todd Andrew James

April 19, 1968 — August 1, 2026

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Todd Andrew James, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who departed from this world on August 1, 2026. Born on April 19, 1968, in Deadwood, South Dakota, Todd was a beacon of compassion, generosity, and humor throughout his life. Todd was the cherished son of Fred and Juanita James, who predeceased him. He leaves behind a devoted family who will forever hold his memory close: his loving wife of 35 years, Cindy James (previously Waisanen); his dear children, Emily Christensen and Justin James; and three treasured grandchildren who were the light of his life. A graduate of Lead-Deadwood High School, Todd's early sense of duty and service led him to join the U.S. Army as a combat medical specialist. His dedication to his country and his fellow soldiers was unwavering, and his expertise in the field earned him respect and admiration. Following his military service, Todd transitioned to a career in nursing, where his skills and compassion truly shone. For over 25 years, he worked as a Registered Nurse for Regional Health/Monument Health, becoming affectionately known as the "super nurse." Todd's commitment to saving lives and providing exceptional care was recognized with numerous accolades, including the prestigious Daisy Award. His impact on his patients and colleagues was immense, and his legacy in the healthcare community will endure. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Todd was a proud member of the American Legion and an avid outdoorsman. He found joy in the simple pleasures of nature, whether hunting, fishing, metal detecting, or hiking. His passion for the outdoors was matched only by his love for his family, whom he considered his greatest joy and achievement. Todd was a man of warmth and humor, known for his practical jokes and ability to bring laughter to those around him. His kindness was boundless, and he was always ready to help anyone in need, often described as someone who would give the shirt off his back. In honor of Todd's love for wildlife, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to an organization supporting wildlife conservation. During this difficult time, the James family extends their heartfelt thanks for the outpouring of love and sympathy they have received. Todd's memory will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him, and his spirit will continue to inspire acts of kindness and joy. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the beauty of the great outdoors he so dearly loved.
