It is with profound sadness and loving remembrance that we announce the passing of Toby David Cortez Latham, who left this world on July 4, 2026, at the age of 49. Toby was born on January 12, 1977, in Jackson, Mississippi, to Gwendolyn Chess. His journey through life was marked by a deep commitment to family, community, and the passions that filled his days with purpose and joy. Toby was a proud graduate of Provine High School, class of 1995. He carried his love for music into his college years at Jackson State University, where he was a cherished member of the Sonic Boom of the South, playing snare drums from 1996 to 2000. He was an assistant church musician at Spring Hill Christian Center. His vibrant spirit and musical talent resonated with those who knew him during those formative years. Toby's professional life was devoted to helping others. As a transportation specialist driver, he assisted patients in reaching their medical appointments and procedures, providing a comforting presence during what could often be challenging times. His kind heart and gentle spirit were evident in everything he did. Toby was also a talented chef and caterer, running his own business with the same dedication and care. His entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly with the local fish house, 2 Sons, where he delighted many with his culinary creations. In his leisure time, Toby enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He found peace and relaxation in fishing, skillfully shooting pool, and expressing himself as an artist. These hobbies were more than just pastimes; they were reflections of his character — one that balanced gentleness with strength, creativity with discipline. Toby's family meant everything to him. He was a protective, loving and guiding force to his sons Tyler Latham and Carmelo Ollie. His legacy of love, integrity, and tough yet tender care will forever remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. A service to celebrate Toby's life will be held on July 11, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Black's Chapel, located at 3425 Robinson Rd., Jackson, MS 39209. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has provided kind words, text messages, cards, and unwavering support during this time of mourning. Your compassion and shared memories are a testament to the impact Toby had on all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Toby's memory to a charity or organization of your choice, honoring his spirit of generosity and care for others. Toby David Cortez Latham will forever be cherished in our memories as a man who lived a life full of love, laughter, and dedication. May he rest in peace, and may his journey inspire us all to embrace life with the same kindness and joy that he so effortlessly shared.
