January 5, 1952 – June 18, 2026
With heavy hearts and profound sorrow, we announce the passing of Timothy Terwilliger, a beloved partner, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, on June 18, 2026. Timothy left this world peacefully, cradled in the loving presence of his devoted partner, Peggy Hobart, after a courageous year-long battle with the aftermath of a stroke. His final days were spent under the compassionate care of hospice, surrounded by the warmth and love he so generously gave to others throughout his life.
Born on January 5, 1952, in the charming town of Cortland, New York, Timothy was the cherished son of Eugene and Martha Terwilliger. Raised in a family that valued kindness and humor, Timothy carried these virtues into every aspect of his life, touching the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Timothy proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army, where he worked as a heavy equipment operator. His service took him to Germany, where he spent two formative years, returning with a broadened perspective and a deepened appreciation for the bonds of friendship and camaraderie.
After his military service, Timothy found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He had a passion for classic cars, particularly his treasured 1934 International pick-up truck, which he lovingly restored with his step-son Steven and grandson Kaleb. Whether at car shows or in his garage, Timothy found solace and happiness in the hum of an engine and the gleam of polished chrome.
Known for his quick wit and warm smile, Timothy was always ready with a joke to brighten someone’s day. His charisma and humor were matched only by his gentle nature and remarkable gift with animals, who seemed to instinctively sense his kind spirit.
Timothy leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter carried on by his lifelong partner of 33 years, Peggy Hobart, who was his anchor and his heart. He is also survived by his step-sons, Steven Hobart (Lisa) and Justin Jr. Hobart (Suzanne), as well as his cherished grandchildren, Desiree Hobart, Kaleb Strickland, and Parker Hobart. Timothy’s siblings, Nancy Conklin of Tennessee and James Terwilliger, will forever hold his memory in their hearts.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the dedicated staff at Groton Rehabilitation and Nursing Center and Cayuga Medical Center for their unwavering care and support during Timothy’s final journey.
To honor Timothy’s life, a celebration will be held where stories can be shared, memories cherished, and his love of laughter celebrated with the same warmth and joy he brought to us all. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to a local animal shelter, a cause close to Timothy’s heart.
Timothy’s life was a testament to the power of kindness, laughter, and love. Though he has departed from this world, the echoes of his laughter and the warmth of his spirit will forever remain with us.
