Timothy Matthews

December 7, 1976 — June 12, 2026

Timothy Matthews, a beloved son, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on June 12, 2026. Born on December 7, 1976, in Marianna, Arkansas, Timothy's journey was one of warmth, resilience, and an unmistakable joy for life. He was 49 years old. Timothy was the cherished son of the late Alexander and Mattie Lee Matthews, who instilled in him a deep sense of love and faith. He was also predeceased by his brothers Alex Bernard, Ricky Turanza, and Darren Red Matthews, and his grandparents, Parker and Rosie Lee Cobbs, and James and Lydia Earnese Matthews. Despite these profound losses, Timothy’s spirit remained unbroken and his heart full of love. He is survived by his devoted siblings, Tywona Matthews, Shanette Garner (Gary), Lynette Saxton, James Matthews, and Sonia Matthews, who will forever hold his memory close. Timothy was a beloved uncle to Darrien Matthews, Darren Logan, Kamari Walker, Madison Walker, Delaysa Johnson, Emersyn Johnson, and Alijah Hemphill. His extended family, including his aunts and uncles Patricia Hymon (James), Lorraine Wynne, Phillip Cobbs (Felecia), and Claudell Cobbs (Maxine), along with his special great aunt Dorothy Hull, will continue to celebrate his life and legacy. Timothy graduated from Brinkley High School and spent many years at the Monroe County Human Development Center, where he formed lifelong friendships and enriched the lives of those around him. His dedication to his community was evident through his involvement with the Twin Pine Seventh Day Adventist Church in Smales, Arkansas, during his childhood, and later at Longview Heights Seventh Day Adventist Church in Memphis, Tennessee. Timothy was affectionately known as "Greedy Man" during his childhood, a nickname that reflected his love for Cheetos and sodas. He found joy in simple pleasures, such as watching "Heat of the Night" and "Walker, Texas Ranger." His unique smile, which appeared often and without reason, was a testament to his joyful nature and touched everyone who knew him. Though his life was not without challenges, Timothy faced them with grace and a steadfast faith. His ability to find happiness in the everyday and his unwavering smile made a lasting impact on his family and friends. In accordance with his family's wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to honor his life. His siblings shared heartfelt messages to express their love and loss: Tywona reflected on her dual role of sister and caregiver, finding solace in knowing Timothy is at peace with the Lord. Shanette and Lynette both expressed how deeply he will be missed and that his memory will forever live in their hearts. Timothy Matthews will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his infectious smile, and the joy he brought to those around him. As his family and friends gather to celebrate his life, they take comfort in knowing that his spirit lives on, resting in peace and love.
