Thomas Wesley Croff, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2026, at Mclaren Northern Michigan Hospital. Born at home in Leavering, Michigan, on April 5, 1944, Tom was surrounded by the warmth and love of his family in his final moments, a testament to a life well-lived. Born to Maynard and Opal Croff, Tom was a beacon of strength and kindness throughout his life. He was predeceased by his older siblings Beverly Shull (Croff) and Berry Croff, and his younger twin brothers Robert and Richard Hanes. He is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Esther Croff (née Flukes), his cherished daughter Lisa Gabel and her fiancé Brian Dailey, and his beloved son Chad Croff and his wife Amy. His legacy continues through his four grandchildren, Dillon, Alivia, Aiden, and Cooper Croff, with the family eagerly anticipating the arrival of a new grandchild. Tom also leaves behind several nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly. A proud alumnus of Eastern High School, class of 1962, Tom furthered his education at Lansing Community College. His life took a pivotal turn when he was drafted to serve in the Vietnam War from 1968 to 1969. As a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division, Tom's bravery earned him two Purple Hearts, reflecting his indomitable spirit and dedication to his country. Tom found his calling in the hospitality industry, managing various restaurants in Saginaw and Lansing, and later owning a party store. His leadership extended beyond his professional life, as he served on the Capital Region Airport Authority Board and the Vanderbilt Community Church Board. In 2019, his commitment to his community was exemplified when he raised $600 to refurbish the Vanderbilt Area War Veterans Memorial Park. His passions were as diverse as his interests. A model train enthusiast and a talented woodworker, Tom was also an active member of the Capital Area Railroad Society. His curiosity about genealogy and new technology advancements kept him engaged, as did his love for flying drones and capturing aerial videos. Together with Esther, Tom explored the continental United States in their RV, with their travels often including an annual camping trip to Mackinaw City. The couple spent their winters as active members of the Ramblers Rest community, where Tom's vibrant presence was felt by all. Family was Tom's cornerstone. He was deeply involved in organizing family reunions, ensuring that the bonds of kinship remained strong. Known for his protective nature, he was a teacher and mentor, imparting wisdom and love to those around him. Tom's outgoing personality ensured that he never met a stranger, and his love for animals was evident in his everyday life. A service to honor and celebrate Tom's life will be held on May 16, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Vanderbilt Community Church. His family invites all who knew Tom to join them in remembering the remarkable man he was, a man whose life was a testament to love, resilience, and community. Tom Wesley Croff will be dearly missed, but his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those he touched.
