Thomas W Mullen

September 16, 1952 — February 26, 2026

Thomas W. Mullen, a man whose life was defined by laughter, love, and unwavering dedication to family, passed away on February 26, 2026, at the age of 73. Born on September 16, 1952, in Brooklyn, NY, Thomas's journey through life was marked by his warmth, resilience, and a steadfast sense of humor that brought joy to everyone around him. Thomas was the cherished son of Thomas Mullen Sr. and Margaret Cianci, both of whom predeceased him, as did his beloved wife, Carol Ann Patella. Thomas and Carol were united in marriage on October 11, 1975, in Brooklyn, NY, and they shared 31 wonderful years together until Carol's passing in 2006. Their union was blessed with two sons, Thomas and John, who were the pride of their lives. Educated at Lafayette High School, Thomas often fondly referred to his post-secondary education as attending "BAU" or "Bath Ave University," a testament to his quick wit and playful spirit. For over 30 years, Thomas dedicated himself to his work as a service technician at Bell Atlantic, which later became Verizon. His colleagues remember him as a loyal and hardworking individual who always brightened the workplace with his signature one-liners. Thomas's heart was as expansive as his humor. He was a devoted father to his sons, Thomas and his wife Kelly, and John. His pride and joy were his grandsons, Brendan and Gavin, whom he adored and never missed an opportunity to cheer on at their sporting events. Thomas's presence was a constant at every game, his encouragement unwavering. Thomas is survived by his loving sister Debbie and her husband Ralph, as well as his adoring nieces, nephew, and great-nephews, all of whom carry forward his legacy of love and laughter. His family and friends were always at the forefront of his mind, and he never failed to remember a birthday or a special occasion, ensuring everyone felt loved and valued. In his leisure, Thomas was an avid fan of the New York Rangers and the Yankees, finding great joy in the camaraderie and excitement of the games. Yet it was the simple moments with family, watching his grandsons play sports, that brought him the greatest fulfillment. After a courageous battle with cancer, Thomas spent his final days surrounded by the family he cherished and who cherished him in return. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the nursing staff at Silver Lake Specialized Care Center and the medical team at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center for their compassionate care during Thomas's journey. A service to honor and celebrate Thomas's life will be held on March 4, 2026, at 4:00 PM at the John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., located at 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, NY 10312. Those who had the privilege of knowing Thomas are invited to join the family in remembering a life well-lived and a man deeply loved. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations in Thomas's memory to a charity of choice, a tribute to his generous spirit and his lifelong commitment to helping others. Thomas W. Mullen will be remembered for his humor, his love, and his unwavering dedication to family—a legacy that will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched.
