Thomas (Tom) Patrick Maday
July 5, 1947 — December 22, 2025
It is with deep sorrow and profound love that we announce the passing of Thomas "Tom" Patrick Maday, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Tom peacefully departed this world on December 22, 2025, while visiting family in Arizona, at the age of 78.
Born on July 5, 1947, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to the late Ludwig and Marian Maday, Tom was a beacon of kindness and strength. His life was a testament to the values instilled by his beloved parents, with whom he is now reunited in eternal rest.
Tom's pursuit of knowledge led him to California Polytechnic University, where he earned a bachelor's degree. Driven by a relentless curiosity and a commitment to excellence, he furthered his education with a master's degree from the prestigious Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. These achievements marked the beginning of a distinguished career as an electrical engineer and program manager for the U.S. Navy at Pax River. Tom's work was instrumental in advancing naval technologies, and he was deeply respected by colleagues and friends alike for his dedication and integrity.
On December 11, 1970, Tom married the love of his life, Marilyn, embarking on a journey of love and partnership that spanned 55 beautiful years. Together, they built a family that was the centerpiece of Tom's life. He is survived by his devoted wife Marilyn; his children Mary (Dan) Slade, TJ (Jessica) Maday, and Emily (Kevin) Skelley; and his treasured grandchildren Maddie, Joy, Tiger, Tristan, Ivy, Logan, Ricky, Robby, and Nancilyn. Tom's sister, Pat (Dan) Kirk, and nephews Ryan and Kevin Kirk also mourn his passing, alongside many friends and extended family members.
Tom's heart was as expansive as his stature; he was a giant of a man with the gentle spirit of a teddy bear. His greatest joy was his grandchildren, whom he adored and proudly captured in countless photographs. His passion for collecting antiques, especially memorabilia from the 1939 World's Fair, was a testament to his appreciation for history and legacy.
A man of faith, Tom was an active member of St. Cecilia's Church in St. Marys City, MD. His commitment to the community was evident through his long-standing involvement as a board member for Historic St. Mary's City. He was ever-present in the lives of his children and grandchildren, supporting their endeavors with enthusiasm and love.
A celebration of Tom's life will take place on June 27, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Cecilia's Church, located at 47950 Mattapany Road, Lexington Park, MD 20653. Family and friends are invited to join in honoring a life well-lived and a legacy of love that will endure in the hearts of all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Tom's memory can be made to Historic St. Mary City, an organization close to his heart. His family wishes to express their deepest gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time.
As we say goodbye to Tom, we hold on to the memories of his laughter, his warmth, and his unwavering love. He will be dearly missed and forever cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
