It is with heavy hearts and profound respect that we honor the life of Thomas McCarthy, a cherished son, brother, mentor, and friend. Born on July 26, 1948, in Oradell, New Jersey, Tom's journey on this earth came to a peaceful conclusion on May 16, 2026, as he passed away in the comforting embrace of his family. Tom was the beloved son of Theresa and Cornelius McCarthy, both of whom have preceded him in death, as has his brother, Michael J. McCarthy. Rooted in a family filled with love and support, Tom carried forward the values instilled in him by his parents, leaving a legacy of kindness, wisdom, and dedication. A proud alumnus of River Dell High School, Tom graduated in 1967, equipped with a thirst for knowledge and a desire to innovate. He pursued further education at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering in 1971. This foundation propelled him into a remarkable career that spanned nearly six decades. Tom's professional journey was marked by his tenure at Computer Solutions in West Orange, New Jersey, where he served as Vice President and President. His expertise in computer technology was not just a job but a calling. Tom became a beacon of guidance for school systems and pharmacies throughout New Jersey, revolutionizing their operations with his profound understanding and innovative solutions. His contributions to the field were not only technical but also educational, as he eagerly shared his knowledge, fostering growth and efficiency across the state. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Tom was a man of many talents and interests. An electronics enthusiast, he delighted in creating and experimenting, constantly pushing the boundaries of what was possible. Yet, amid his achievements and hobbies, Tom's greatest joy was found in the warmth of family gatherings. His quick wit and passion for stimulating intellectual discussions made him a cherished companion, leaving an indelible mark on those who had the privilege of knowing him. Tom's life will be celebrated at a service on August 29, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church, located on Elm Street in Oradell, New Jersey. As we gather to honor a life well-lived, we remember Tom not just for his accomplishments, but for his unwavering love, humor, and the light he brought into our lives. In this time of reflection, we are reminded of the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson: "It is not the length of life, but the depth of life." Tom McCarthy filled his years with depth, purpose, and love, leaving a legacy that will continue to inspire and guide us. May he rest in peace, knowing his life was a testament to the power of kindness, intellect, and dedication.
