Thomas L. Dutton

September 27, 1957 — September 24, 2026

Thomas Dutton was born on September 27, 1957, in Chicago, Illinois, to Ora and Aaron Dutton Sr. From an early age, Thomas developed a deep love for music and boxing. He received his education in Chicago and began building a life centered around the things and people he loved. In his early years, Thomas met Valerie Cade, whom he later married. Together, they welcomed their only daughter, Janielle Dutton. Later in life, Thomas relocated to Jacksonville, Florida, where he and Valerie Ragsdale. live and were married in 1995. They built a beautiful life together with Andrea and Andre, whom Thomas lovingly embraced as his bonus children. Their home was filled with love, family, and happiness. Although Thomas was grateful for his life and family, he discovered a deeper sense of purpose when he gave his life to Christ in 1996. From that day forward, Thomas became a devoted Christian and dedicated himself to sharing the Word of Jesus Christ with everyone he encountered. He often expressed his purpose by saying, “My purpose is to spread His Word and save as many people as possible.” In 2003, Thomas and his family returned to Chicago, where he continued his career in healthcare until his retirement in 2008. Retirement allowed Thomas to embrace the things that brought him joy and, most importantly, spend more time with his family. He found joy in the simple things, buying sneakers, going to the movies to catch every Marvel and superhero movie, and simply making the most of life with the people he loved. These moments became treasured memories for those blessed to share them with him. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Ora and Aaron Dutton Sr.; his brothers, Aaron Dutton Jr. and Lamech. He leaves to cherish his memory and his beloved wife, Valerie. His sister, Casaundra Harvey (Louis); his children, Janielle Dutton, Andrea Carter (Dwight), and Andre Harris (Victory); his nieces, Tierra and Lauryn; and his grandnephew, Brayden. He is also lovingly remembered by his seven grandchildren: Keyshawn, Khamren, Jaden, Donovan, Dominick, Amari, and his only granddaughter, Kamyiah. Thomas will also be lovingly remembered by his extended family, cousins, friends, and the many people whose lives he touched throughout his journey.
