Thomas Joseph Crowley
May 16, 1930 — August 6, 2026
Thomas Joseph Crowley, a cherished pillar of his family and community, peacefully departed this world on August 6, 2026, at the age of 96. Born on May 16, 1930, in Fall River, Massachusetts, Tom lived a life filled with love, dedication, and service.
Tom's early years were marked by his academic and athletic accomplishments. A graduate of Belmont Abbey Preparatory School, Class of 1948, he excelled as captain of both the football and basketball teams. Tom furthered his education at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., graduating in 1952 with a degree in Economics. During his time at Georgetown, he joined the US Marine Corps Officers program and spent a memorable summer at Parris Island, South Carolina, training for his service. During the Korean War, Tom served his country with honor as an air controller, rising to the rank of Captain before his honorable discharge in 1955. His pride in being an American and a Marine was a defining aspect of his life.
In partnership with Gordon Cox, Tom established Microtron Abrasives, where he served as president. His hard work and strong work ethic were the foundation of his professional success. Beyond his career, Tom was deeply involved in his community, holding memberships in various clubs, including St. Gabriel Catholic Church, Carmel Country Club, Huntingtowne Farms, Linville Ridge Club, and De Bordieu Colony Club in Georgetown, SC.
Tom's life was enriched by his marriage to Ann Todd Crowley, with whom he shared a love for travel, particularly enjoying trips to Europe and Hawaii. Together, they found joy in golf and tennis at Carmel Country Club, and remarkably, both achieved a hole in one at Linville Ridge Club. Tom's devotion to his beloved Ann was profound, particularly in her final years.
Family was the heart of Tom's existence. He was a devoted father to Marion Crowley Scherger and Dr. Todd Crowley, a proud grandfather to Mary Elizabeth Scherger (Townsend), Michael Daniel Scherger (Kelly), and Catherine Scherger Talley (Tanner), and an adoring great-grandfather to Ella Todd Talley, Rogan Thomas Talley, Evelyn Anne Scherger, Signorello John Scherger, and Stella Mae Scherger. He is also survived by a large extended family, including numerous nieces and nephews who cherished their Uncle Tom.
Tom was predeceased by his dear wife Ann, his parents John and Mae Crowley, his sister Mary Eggleston, his brothers Jack (and sister-in-law Rose Mary Crowley) and Bill Crowley, his son-in-law Daniel Michael Scherger, and many lifelong friends. His legacy of love and faith is a guiding light for all who knew him.
Remembered as a kind and loving individual, Tom's deep faith and love of God were central to his life. He never missed a ballgame, demonstrating his unwavering support and pride in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His favorite words, "Thank you for everything you do and may God bless you," reflect the gratitude and warmth that defined his interactions with others.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on August 11, 2026, at 11:00 AM at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 3016 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC 28211. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tom's memory to Via Health Partners, Charlotte, NC.
Tom's love, kindness, and faith will forever be remembered by those fortunate enough to have been part of his life. His legacy is indeed his love, which continues to live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
