Thomas J.Evans
June 25, 1940 — September 15, 2026
Thomas J. Evans, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2026. Born on June 25, 1940, in Columbus, Ohio, to David T. Evans and Catherine L. Slane Evans, Thomas lived a life full of love, dedication, and service to others.
Thomas's early years were spent in Columbus, where he developed a deep sense of community and a strong work ethic. He was predeceased by his dear parents and his sister, Susan Evans, yet he carried their memories with him throughout his life.
For 46 years, Thomas devoted his career to The Columbus Dispatch, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues. However, his true passion lay in farming. On his Milford Township farm in Knox County, Ohio, Thomas was a pioneer, embracing the no-till farming system and raising cattle, corn, wheat, and soybeans. His innovative spirit and dedication to sustainable agriculture left a lasting impact on the community.
A man of profound faith, Thomas was an active member of the Brandon Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and was the keeper of the church sign. His heart was as golden as his smile, and he had an innate ability to charm his way into the hearts of those he met. Thomas's life was a testament to his faith; he was a servant of Jesus Christ, always ready to witness and pray for anyone he encountered.
Thomas's love for collecting reusable items demonstrated his resourcefulness and desire to help others. He was the go-to person in the community for any situation, often having just the right part or material needed to solve a problem. His collection of automobiles, farm equipment, and other items was a testament to his willingness to lend a hand.
Thomas is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Connie Mathys Evans, who was the love of his life and his steadfast partner in all things. Together, they built a beautiful family that includes their children: David B. Evans, Nancy D. Evans Landers, Melinda S. Evans Morgan, and Thomas J. Evans. Thomas was also a proud grandfather to 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, and he cherished the time spent with each of them. He is also survived by his sister, Donna Evans Lawrence, and a beloved nephew.
Thomas's legacy of kindness, generosity, and devotion to family and faith will forever be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His life was a beacon of love and service, shining brightly in the hearts of his family and community.
