In Loving Memory

Thomas J. Higgins
September 14, 1946 — June 21, 2026
On June 21, 2026, the world lost a beacon of warmth and humor as Thomas J. Higgins peacefully passed away at the age of 79 after a long and courageous battle with dementia. Born on September 14, 1946, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Tom was the beloved son of Floyd and Eleanor Higgins, who both preceded him in death. Tom’s life was a tapestry of love, laughter, and dedication, woven together by the countless relationships he cherished.
A proud graduate of Pulaski High School and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, Tom was a man of vision and determination. He was a founding member of Phi Chi Epsilon at UW-Whitewater, where he laid the foundation for his future successes. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish Care Cabs in Milwaukee, and he co-founded Metro Ride Inc. in Minneapolis and Community Care Solutions in Phoenix, Arizona. Through these ventures, Tom not only built successful businesses but also created a supportive environment for his employees, as he deeply believed that a business is only as successful as the people behind it.
Tom’s zest for life was evident in his many passions. A golf enthusiast, he loved to frequent beautiful courses around the world, often in locales that embraced the sun, such as Dallas, Tampa, and Scottsdale. Las Vegas and tropical destinations with their casinos, beaches, and entertainment were his playgrounds. Music was another great love, with artists like Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton, and Michael McDonald providing the soundtrack to his life. His laughter could light up any room, and his ability to engage in meaningful conversations with anyone he met was legendary. To Tom, his best friends were family, and he was a loyal friend and a devoted father to his son, David, who survives him at the age of 50.
Tom's life was enriched by the company of dear friends and business partners, including Don Graves, Paul and Mary Bockhorst, Peter Bockhorst, Janet and Frederick Schuler, Jay Anosov, Tom Schneider, and many others who were significant in his life. These relationships were the pillars of his existence, and he cherished each one deeply.
The family acknowledges the exceptional care provided by the staff at Discovery Commons in Brookfield and By Your Side Hospice, whose compassion and dedication brought comfort to Tom and his loved ones during his final days.
A private celebration of Tom’s life will take place at a later date, honoring his wish for an intimate gathering of those closest to him. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Tom’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association - National Office, located in Chicago, IL, to support the ongoing fight against this devastating disease.
As we remember Thomas J. Higgins, let us celebrate a life well-lived, a spirit that touched many, and a legacy of love and laughter that will endure in the hearts of all who knew him.
