Thomas J. Cosgrove, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on June 9, 2026, at the age of 85. Born in the vibrant town of Hoboken, New Jersey, on January 6, 1941, Thomas lived a life marked by warmth, kindness, and a steadfast devotion to his family and community. Thomas was the cherished son of Thomas John and Margaret Cosgrove, who predeceased him and instilled in him the values that guided his life. He is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Mary Ann, who stood by his side as his partner and confidante, sharing countless memories and a love that only grew deeper with time. A proud father, Thomas leaves behind his sons, Thomas Henry Cosgrove and Joseph, along with Joseph's wife Loraine. His sister Doreen Cosgrove also survives him, carrying forward the familial bond that remained strong throughout their lives. Thomas's legacy lives on in his grandchildren: Nicole and Michael Newgas, Joseph David Cosgrove, Jennifer and Anthony D'Alessandro, Thomas Henry Cosgrove, Sherriann and Eric Rydelski, and his great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Lily Newgas, who were a source of immense joy and pride. Thomas served his country with honor in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1962, where he was stationed at Fort Richardson, Alaska. His time in service reflected his dedication and sense of duty, characteristics that he carried into his professional life. Following his military service, Thomas embarked on a career in computer programming, a field he embraced with passion and innovation. From 1962 to 1968, he worked with Associated Hospital Service of New York, before joining Glen Rock Lumber & Supply Co. as their Data Processing Manager/Programmer from 1968 to 1969. He then contributed his expertise to the Asbury Park Press as the Data Processing Manager until 1985. Thomas was known for his warm smile and the genuine way he made everyone feel special and welcome. He had a remarkable ability to find joy in everyday moments, leaving an "afterglow of smiles" that will continue to light the paths of those who knew him. His laughter and stories, shared during bright and sunny days, are echoes that will linger in the hearts of his loved ones. The Cosgrove family would like to express their deepest gratitude to caregivers Sonia Mills and Nicole Tulloch for their exceptional care and compassion during Thomas’s final days. In the words of Helen Lowrie Marshall, Thomas wished for his memory to be a happy one, filled with echoing laughter and the warmth of sunny days. As we grieve his passing, may the tears dry before the sun of happy memories that he leaves behind when day is done. Thomas J. Cosgrove's life was a testament to love, kindness, and the enduring impact of a gentle heart. His memory will forever be cherished by those who were fortunate to know him.
