Thomas left this world peacefully at his home on June 3, 2026, at the age of 71. Born on November 10, 1954, in Greenville, South Carolina, Thomas was the cherished son of the late Joe and Janice Byrd. He grew up surrounded by the beauty of Greenville County, where he began to build the foundation of a life characterized by kindness, integrity, and unwavering dedication to family and friends. A proud alumnus of Greenville High School, Thomas carried the values instilled in him by his community throughout his life. Thomas's journey was marked by a deep love for his family, who were his greatest source of joy and pride. He is lovingly remembered by his son, Joe Byrd Jr., of Greenville, SC, and his two daughters, Tiffany Byrd and Gwen Kelly, both residing in Greer, SC. His beloved sister, Precious Smith of Charlotte, NC, also survives him, along with his ten adoring grandchildren and three delightful great-grandchildren. Thomas's family extends to a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends who cherished his presence and will continue to carry his memory in their hearts. Known for his gentle spirit and generous heart, Thomas was a beacon of warmth to everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His laughter was infectious, his wisdom profound, and his compassion limitless. Whether offering a helping hand or sharing a story to brighten someone's day, Thomas's ability to connect with people was remarkable. His legacy of love and kindness will endure in the lives of those he touched. In honor of Thomas's wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held, providing an intimate space for his family to celebrate his life and bid him a heartfelt farewell. While the ceremony is private, the family appreciates the outpouring of love and support from all who knew Thomas and invites you to hold his memory close. As we say goodbye to Thomas, we are reminded of the words he lived by: "A life filled with love and laughter is a life well-lived."
