It is with heavy hearts and profound respect that we announce the passing of Thomas "Billy" James Henderson, who departed this life on February 28, 2026, at the age of 78. Billy, as he was affectionately known, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of love.
Born on October 9, 1947, in the lively borough of Queens, NY, Billy was the beloved son of the late Maude Gillyard and Milton Henderson. He was preceded in death by his devoted parents, who undoubtedly welcomed him with open arms into their eternal rest.
Billy's journey through life was marked by dedication, intelligence, and an enduring love for family and friends. He was a proud graduate of Clara Barton High School and went on to achieve academic excellence, earning a Master's Degree in Engineering from St. John's University. His career was a testament to his commitment and passion for his field, which inspired many who had the privilege to work alongside him.
Family was the cornerstone of Billy's existence, and he is survived by his loving children: Pamela, Bernadette, and Sherine Henderson. He was a doting grandfather to seven grandchildren: Kwana and Jilene Carter, Daraya Garrison, Sheleisha Smith, Brion Jr., Joshua, and Josiah Craig, all of whom brought immense joy to his life. Billy was also blessed with three great-grandchildren, who continued to bring light into his world.
Billy's life was a tapestry woven with the threads of countless friendships and relationships. He leaves behind a host of family and friends who will forever treasure his wisdom, laughter, and the warmth of his smile. He was a beacon of strength and compassion, always offering a listening ear and a helping hand to those in need.
A service to celebrate Billy's remarkable life will be held on March 14, 2026, at 12:00 PM at the Lawrence H. Woodward Funeral Home, located at 1 Troy Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11213. Family, friends, and all whose lives he touched are invited to gather in remembrance of a man who lived with dignity and grace.
