December 30, 1951 — March 23, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Thomas Berge, who departed this world at the age of 74. Born on December 30, 1951, Thomas was a beloved son, sibling, father, grandfather and friend who touched the lives of many with his kindness and wit. Thomas was the cherished son of Angela and Harold Berge, who predeceased him and welcomed him with open arms alongside his sister Bonita and brother in-law Dennis. He leaves behind a loving family who will continue to celebrate his legacy: His siblings, Alan, Christiane, Daniel, Cynthia, Caroline, Bob and Carda; his nephew, Greogory and nieces, Karda and Severin; his children Derek and Erin and their partners Cristal and Ben; and his grandchildren, Thomas, Ella and Amelia, who brought immense joy to his life. Thomas was a proud alumnus of Layola High School, class of 1969. On July 14, 1980, he married Deborah Hewitt. Together they welcomed two children. In 1989 they separated but remained close friends. Thomas pursued a career with the CN Railway as a carman, completing his apprenticeship in 1981 and later lent his skills to Halarai, where he worked diligently for many years before retiring in 2015. Thomas was known not only for his craftsmanship as a welder, but also for his ingenuity and resourcefulness as a handyman—qualities that were admired by all who knew him. Beyond his professional life, Thomas was a man of varied interests and passions. He had a deep appreciation for music and movies and amassed an impressive collection that reflected his diverse tastes. He enjoyed traveling with his family, biking and computers. His home was often filled with the sound of his favorite tunes, and the smell of freshly brewed coffee. Thomas continued to learn and evolve in his retired years, embracing new challenges and life as a grandfather. A celebration of Thomas's life will be held on Saturday, April 18 from 11am-3pm at Rideau Funeral Home, 4239 Sources Blvd, Dollard-Des Ormeaux. We invite friends and family to gather to honor his memory and share stories. As we bid farewell to Thomas, let us remember the love he shared, the lives he touched, and the beautiful legacy he leaves behind. His spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. May he rest in peace, forever cherished, and never forgotten.
