Thomas Albert Marx

May 15, 1952 — February 16, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Thomas Albert Marx, who left this world peacefully on February 16, 2026, at the age of 73. Born on May 15, 1952, to Albert and Wilhelmina Marx, Tom was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, whose life was a testament to dedication, kindness, and the pursuit of knowledge. Tom grew up in Chicago, Illinois, where he developed a passion for learning and engineering. He graduated from Lane Tech College Prep High School in 1971, demonstrating early on his penchant for problem-solving and innovation. His academic journey continued at the Illinois Institute of Technology, where he earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering. This foundation led him to a fulfilling career focused on teaching, designing duty gear, and sharing his expertise on the range. He was deeply committed to instructing law enforcement and military personnel, leaving an indelible mark on all those who had the privilege to learn from him. In matters of the heart, Tom found his soulmate in Elena Kathleen. The two wed on July 27, 2002, in a beautiful ceremony in Portland, Oregon. Their marriage was a beacon of love and partnership, inspiring all who knew them. Together, they built a life characterized by warmth and mutual respect, nurturing a family that was Tom's greatest pride and joy. Tom was a devoted father to his two sons, James and John Marx, who, along with their families, carry forward his legacy of love and integrity. He cherished the time spent with his grandson, Rowan Marx, whose laughter and energy brought immense joy to Tom's life. Tom's love extended to his daughters-in-law, Laura Waters Marx and Darden Dickerson Marx, who he embraced as his own. In addition to his dedication to family and career, Tom was a man of principle and compassion. His generosity knew no bounds, often extending a helping hand to those in need. As a tribute to his giving spirit, the family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Tom's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, an organization close to his heart. Thomas Albert Marx lived a life full of purpose, love, and service. Though he has departed from this world, his spirit lives on in the lives he touched and the memories he created. He was predeceased by his loving parents, Albert and Wilhelmina, but leaves behind a family rooted in the values he instilled. His legacy will continue to inspire and guide those he loved dearly. May he rest in peace, knowing he was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
