It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Theresa Lenard, who departed this life peacefully on May 5, 2026, at the age of 76. Theresa succumbed shortly after having a stroke, leaving behind a legacy of love, compassion, and unwavering faith. Born on July 25, 1949, in Seattle, Washington, Theresa was the treasured daughter of Essie Lavert Stevens Kimmons and Prentis Kimmons.
Theresa's journey was marked by a deep commitment to her family and community, embracing a life filled with passion and purpose. She was preceded in death by her dear sister, Dotyhrlia Bryant, and her cherished brother, Anthony Stevens. Left to honor her memory is her devoted husband of 50 years, Willie Lenard, with whom she was joined in Holy Matrimony on April 17, 1976. Together, they built a life grounded in love and faith.
Theresa's life was further enriched by her son, Anthony Lenard, and her loving sisters, Melvereen Gibson, Angie Kimmons Jackson, and Litetha Kimmons. She found immense joy in her role as a grandmother, blessing the lives of her two grandchildren with her warmth and wisdom.
A proud alumna of James A. Garfield High School in Seattle, Theresa pursued higher education at Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Washington. Her career as a teacher in Markham, IL, was a testament to her dedication to nurturing young minds. She furthered her impact as a Special Education teacher at Bloom High School in Chicago Heights, IL, where she was known for her patience and kindness.
Theresa's faith was a guiding light throughout her life. She was an active member of the Sauk Trail Baptist Temple in Matteson, IL, where she found a community that nourished her spirit and strengthened her resolve to serve others. In her retirement, Theresa answered a divine call to start a ministry of Encouragement and Compassion, offering support and solace to those in need, demonstrating her boundless empathy and generosity.
Her culinary talents were legendary, with cooking and baking being among her favorite pastimes. She delighted in sharing her homemade creations, bringing people together around her table and creating memories filled with laughter and love.
A celebration of Theresa's life will be held on May 23, 2026, at the Sauk Trail Baptist Temple in Matteson, IL. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all who have offered support and kind expressions during this difficult time. Theresa's absence leaves a void in our hearts, yet her spirit and teachings will forever guide us.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Theresa's honor, continuing her legacy of giving and compassion.
