She was born on July 25, 1949, in the vibrant city of Seattle, Washington, to her loving parents Essie Lavert Stevens Kimmons and Prentis Kimmons.
Theresa was a beloved sister, wife, mother, and grandmother, who dedicated herself to her family and community with endless grace and compassion. She is predeceased by her cherished siblings, Dotyhrlia Bryant and Anthony Stevens, and is survived by her devoted husband, Willie Lenard, to whom she was joined in Holy Matrimony on April 17, 1976. Together, they built a life filled with love and laughter, centered around their treasured son, Anthony Lenard, and their adored grandchildren, Jada and Issac. She is also remembered with warmth by her sisters, Melvereen Gibson, Angie Kimmons Jackson, and Litetha Kimmons.
Theresa's educational journey began at James A. Garfield High School in Seattle, where she cultivated a passion for learning that would lead her to Central Washington University in Ellensburg. With a heart full of commitment, she embarked on a career in teaching, answering her calling to nurture and educate young minds. Her tenure as a teacher in Markham, Illinois, and her impactful role in Special Education at Bloom High School in Chicago Heights, Illinois, stand as a testament to her dedication and unwavering belief in the potential of every child.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Theresa was a beacon of love and support within her community. As an active member of Sauk Trail Baptist Temple in Matteson, Illinois, she imbued her spiritual home with warmth and vitality. Her ministry of Encouragement and Compassion touched countless lives, offering solace and hope to those in need.
Theresa's kitchen was often filled with the comforting aromas of her cooking and baking, expressions of love that brought joy to family and friends alike. Her legacy is one of kindness, generosity, and an unyielding faith in the goodness of people.
A service to honor Theresa's life will be held on May 23, 2026, at Sauk Trail Baptist Temple, where her life and contributions will be celebrated and remembered by all who were fortunate to know her.
