In Loving Memory

Theresa Drews
May 19, 1928 — October 16, 2026
Theresa "Terry" Drews, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2026, surrounded by her devoted family. Born on May 19, 1928, in the close-knit community of Tompkinsville, Staten Island, New York, Theresa was a beacon of strength and compassion throughout her 98 years of life.
The daughter of Joseph Attanasi and Lily Cocozello, Terry was raised with a deep appreciation for family, hard work, and the beauty of simple joys. She was predeceased by her cherished husband, Roy Drews, and their beloved son, Karl Drews. Her memory lives on through her daughter, Marie, and son-in-law, Gerard D'Angelo, as well as her adored granddaughter, Holly Goroff.
Terry was a proud graduate of Curtis High School, where she first honed her remarkable skills as a wordsmith and reader. Her career began amidst the bustling energy of Madison Avenue during its advertising heyday, a testament to her pioneering spirit and determination. She later brought her talents to the Staten Island Advance and eventually served as an executive research librarian at Merrill Lynch, where her intellect and dedication left a lasting impact.
A woman of deep faith, Terry was an active member of the Holy Child parish and participated in the Divine Mercy Adoration Chapel for many years. Her spiritual life was mirrored in her love for the ocean; she found solace in the rhythmic sound of waves and spent countless hours collecting beach glass along the shore. Her passion for the arts was equally profound, with Frank Sinatra's timeless melodies holding a special place in her heart.
Terry's life was a testament to generosity and kindness. She was a force of nature, known for her directness and authenticity. Her home was always open, and she never hesitated to offer help or a listening ear to those in need. Whether she was tending to her garden, preparing a delicious meal, or sharing laughter with friends at the Y, Terry's warmth and vivacity touched everyone she met.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff at the Brielle Memory Care at Seaview, whose kindness over the past six years brought comfort and peace to Terry's final days. They also wish to thank the wonderful neighbors on Ridgecrest Avenue for their unwavering support.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on October 24, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Holy Child RC Church, 4747 Amboy Road, Staten Island. In lieu of flowers, donations in Terry's memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Theresa's legacy of love, strength, and compassion will continue to inspire all who knew her. Though she has left this world, her spirit remains in the hearts of her family and friends, and in the simple joys she cherished.
