Theodore Edgar
June 8, 1937 — September 30, 2026
Theodore Edgar, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away suddenly from complications of pneumonia. Born on June 8, 1937, in the scenic parish of St. Patrick's, Grenada, Theodore's life was a testament to resilience, love, and an unwavering commitment to his family and community.
Theodore was the cherished son of the late Catherine and Matthew Edgar, and though he faced the heartache of losing his parents and siblings Thanye "TN" and Gloria, he continued to embody the values they instilled in him. His surviving siblings, Lena, Lietha, and Ronald, carry on the family legacy alongside Theodore's devoted wife, Lydris, with whom he shared a remarkable 50-year marriage. Together, Theodore and Lydris raised a large, loving family comprising their seven children: Benedict, Rikky, Gillian, Bernadette, Wendy, Kenny, and Wayne. His doting nature extended to his 13 grandchildren — Brieann, Stacia, Sierra, Ryan, RJ, Mikale, Justin, Aaron, Syrus, Miles, Roman, Layna, and Carissa — and his two great-grandchildren, Selah and Marlee, who brought him immense joy and pride.
Theodore's journey began at River Salle Primary School in Grenada, where he acquired a firm foundation for his life's work. His career path was diverse and impactful. He initially served in the agriculture department, then transitioned into roles as a traffic officer and police officer in Grenada. Upon moving to the United States, Theodore began anew as a taxi driver, eventually establishing his own business as a school bus driver, a role he fulfilled until his retirement at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
A man of faith and dedication, Theodore was an active member of the New Haven Seventh-day Adventist Church, where he found community and spiritual fulfillment. His interests were as varied as his career; he delighted in playing All Fours and draft with friends and was an ardent fan of wrestling, rarely missing a show. In his later years, he found peace and satisfaction in solving word search puzzles.
Theodore's warm and welcoming personality was complemented by a smile that could light up any room. Known for his kindness and generosity, he touched countless lives, leaving a legacy of love and compassion that will endure for generations.
A memorial service to honor Theodore's life will be held on November 8, 2026, at 3:00 PM at the New Haven Seventh-day Adventist Church, located at 634 Prospect Place. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to a charity of your choice, reflecting Theodore's spirit of giving.
The Edgar family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the New Haven SDA members, friends, family, coworkers, and all those who offered financial support, emotional comfort, prayers, and thoughts. Your kindness during this time of loss has been deeply appreciated and will forever be remembered.
