Thelma L Cooks

Thelma L. Cooks, a beloved mother, daughter, sister, and friend, peacefully departed this world on July 3, 2026, at the age of 79. Thelma was the cherished daughter of Lewis B Washington and Minnie Lue Lawrie, In Ladonia, Texas. Thelma, received her formal education through the Dallas Independent School District, where she attended L.G.Pinkston High Schol. Her life was a testament to love, resilience, and unwavering faith. Thelma accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at Galilee Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Lu Fell Jenkins. She later became a member of True Foundation Full Gospel, where she worshiped under the leadership of Pastor Whitney B. Foster. In later years, she reunited with Rising Faith Ministry, where she faithfully and diligently served as President of the Pastor's Support Committee under the leadership of Pastor Bermayne Jackson. Her dedicated service reflected her deep love for God and her commitment to her church family. Thelma's life was defined by her unwavering love, strength, and devotion to her family. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Lewis and Minnie; her cherished daughter, Marsha; her dear siblings, Lewis Junior, Leila Mae, Margaret and Pastyruth; and her precious granddaughter, Kimberly. A devoted and loving mother, Thelma leaves to cherish her memory her three beloved children, Cynthia, Darrell, and Artice Washington, who were the greatest joy of her life. She is also survived by her six brothers, Freddie, Eddie, James, Perry, Steve, and David Lee Washington; her five sisters, Mattie, Ora Lee, Wanda, Thelma Washington, and Gail Cooper; and her cherished grandchildren, Ebony, Desiray, and Kendrick Washington. Thelma's nurturing spirit, gentle wisdom, and unconditional love touched the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. She was a treasured maternal figure, trusted confidante, and unwavering source of strength to her family and loved ones. In addition to her immediate family, she leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy of love, kindness, and compassion will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Beyond her devotion to family and faith, Thelma embraced life's simple pleasures. She enjoyed spending time working on puzzles, watching her favorite soap operas, playing cards with family and friends, and never missed an opportunity to play bingo. These moments brought her happiness, laughter, and treasured memories with those she loved. Her warm smile, generous heart, and joyful spirit will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Thelma L. Cooks will be profoundly missed by her family and the many lives she touched. Her legacy of love and kindness will endure in the hearts of all who knew her. As we bid farewell to a remarkable woman, let us celebrate the beautiful life she led and the indelible mark she left on our hearts.
