It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Thekla Bridgette Garrette Thomas, who departed this life on July 10, 2026, at the age of 55. Bridgette was born on February 4, 1971, and from the very beginning, she graced the world with her warmth and vibrant spirit.
Bridgette was a devoted wife to her beloved husband, Anthony James Thomas, and together they built a life overflowing with love and cherished memories. A nurturing and affectionate mother, Bridgette was the heart and soul of her family, always there with open arms and a loving smile for her children: Jacoby Garrette, Desiree Garrette, Billie McDougle, Maelee McDougle (and future son-in-law & bonus son, Jasper "Jay" Smith), Jasmine Styles, and Christian Styles. Her children were her pride and joy, and she found immense happiness in their lives and accomplishments.
As a grandmother, Bridgette was adored by her cherished grandchildren: Breyonna McDougle, Jaylan Garrette, Malaylea Moore, Iyanna Bishop, Nyla Carter, Tyreace Swoope, Caleb Syas Jr., Kyson McDougle, Zurianna Smith, Ja'Mari Smith, Anthony McDougle, Arlo McDougle, Angelus, and Kitai Monbelly. Her boundless love and playful spirit created unforgettable moments that will forever be treasured by her grandchildren.
Bridgette was the beloved sister of Jason Garrette, Roslyn Kennedy, Sissiretta Garrett, and Shawn Miller (Larry Miller). Her bond with her siblings was one of deep affection and unwavering support, a testament to her loving nature. She was also a dear aunt to her nieces Ti'Eisha Garrett, Elizabeth Fontenot, KeShontae Kennedy, and WyNeisha Kennedy, and her nephews DeMark Kennedy and Michael Ceaser. Her great-nieces Diamond Garrett, Dynasty Garrett, Tasy'Anna Demease, and great-nephews Dezmond Garrett, DeMark Jr., Justice Kennedy, Kaiden Fontenot, Kaivin Fontenot, Kyland King, Malakiah Kennedy, and Treyden Kennedy will carry forward her legacy of kindness and joy.
Preceded in death by her dear family members Carolee Jackson, Edie Mae Blount, Sarah Lee Spires, and Beatrice Baggett, Bridgette leaves behind a rich tapestry of love and memories that will continue to be woven through the lives of those she touched.
Bridgette was a true beacon of love and compassion. Her bright smile and generous spirit brought joy to everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Her life was a testament to kindness, unwavering devotion to her family, and a heart that knew no bounds. Bridgette's unconditional love, sweet guidance, and gentle compassion will remain forever etched in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
A service to celebrate Bridgette's beautiful life will be held on July 18, 2026, at James Funeral Home, located at 1801 Moeling Street, Lake Charles, LA 70601. Her family invites all who knew her to join them in remembering and honoring her remarkable life.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Bridgette's memory to a charity of choice, reflecting her generous spirit and love for helping others.
Bridgette will be deeply missed every single day, but the love she gave so freely will eternally comfort, inspire, and guide us all.
