Terry Harold Smith

July 26, 1945 — July 2, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound appreciation for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Terry Smith, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. Terry departed this world on July 2, 2026, at the age of 80, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family at Ascension St Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Terry was born on July 26, 1945, in Nashville, Tennessee, to proud parents Lt Harold M. Smith and Evelyn Smith. As a young man, Terry displayed a keen intellect and an affinity for all things technical. He graduated from Hume-Fogg Vocational-Technical High School in Nashville in 1964, specializing in Electrical studies, laying the groundwork for his future endeavors. In 1965, Terry embarked on a noble journey of service to his country by joining the U.S. Air Force. Over the course of his 22-year military career, he was stationed at eight different duty stations, beginning at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas and concluding at Hanscom Air Force Base in Massachusetts. His dedication and honor in serving his country were matched only by his commitment to his family. After retiring from the Air Force, Terry continued his path of dedicated service, working for the Postal Service for 21 years. Retirement was but a brief pause for Terry, who soon returned to the workforce as a Security Guard, finding fulfillment in protecting various institutions, including hospitals, banks, and the Country Music Hall of Fame. Terry was a man of many talents, often referred to as a "jack of all trades." His quick wit and sharp sense of humor were ever-present, and he had an uncanny ability to make anyone smile, no matter their mood. His love of life extended to his hobbies, which included traveling and cruising with his cherished wife, Linda, and watching the races, where he found excitement and joy. In 2005, Terry’s life took a beautiful turn when he met Linda, the woman who would become his greatest love and partner. After nearly a decade together, he proposed to her during a memorable Christmas in 2015. Their union was celebrated the following April at their farm in Christiana, surrounded by family and friends. Theirs was a marriage marked by happiness, mutual respect, and an unwavering bond. Terry was an active member of the Smyrna C.B. Rescue Unit from 1988 until its disbandment, serving as an Advanced Extrication Technician, EMT, and Rescue Diver. His commitment to the community and his fellow man was exemplified through his service, leaving a lasting impact on those he helped. Terry was predeceased by his parents, Lt Harold M. and Evelyn Smith; his beloved son, Harold Anthony Smith; his grandparents, Joseph Franklin & Elsie Hudson and Harold & Beatrice Smith; and his sister, Sherry Ann Imrie. He is survived by his devoted wife, Linda Smith; his daughters, Amanda (Jim) Andersen and Jessica (Rachel) Henry; his stepchildren, Bonnie (Jason) Parrish, Susan (Aaron) Harris, and Stephen (Lindsay) Qualls. He leaves behind a legacy of 15 grandchildren—Christian, Dakota (Michelle), Tristen, Gable, Daegan, Joseph, Katelyn (Pavlos), Claire, Sam, Lauren, Rachel, Josie, Ashlyn, Ellie, and Amelia—and four great-grandchildren, Jackson, Zoey, Paisley, Ryder, with another precious one on the way. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Ascension St Thomas Rutherford Hospital and the Emergency Services of Rutherford County for their unwavering dedication, compassion, and care during Terry’s final days. Terry's presence will be deeply missed, but his indelible spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His laughter, wisdom, and kindness have left an enduring mark on the world, and his memory will be cherished always. A private service will be held in celebration of Terry's life, where family and close friends will gather to honor his remarkable journey. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity of your choice in Terry's name. Rest in peace, dear Terry. Your love and light will guide us eternally.
