Terry Lee Clayton
September 26, 1959 — May 22, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life so beautifully lived that we announce the passing of Terry Lee Clayton, who left this world peacefully on May 22, 2026, at the age of 66. Born on September 26, 1959, in the charming town of Chester, South Carolina, Terry was the beloved son of Kenneth Leon and Audrey Blair Clayton. Although he has departed from this earthly realm, his spirit remains a beacon of light and love for all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Terry's journey was marked by a deep devotion to his family, faith, and community. He shared 34 cherished years with his beloved wife, Jill Swafford Clayton, who stood by his side through every chapter of their shared life. Terry was a devoted father to his daughters, Tabitha, Chana, Lettie, and Brandi, who, along with his numerous grandchildren, brought him immense joy and pride. He is also survived by his loving mother, Audrey Clayton, and his brothers, Lonnie and Sean Clayton. Terry is now reunited in eternal peace with his father, Kenneth Leon Clayton, his sister, Julie Watkins, and his stepdaughter, Lisa Boyle.
Terry dedicated 11 years of his life to serving his country in the U.S. Army, a testament to his unwavering commitment to duty and honor. Upon returning to civilian life, he harnessed his skills as a carpenter, building not only structures but also lasting friendships and a legacy of hard work that spanned over three decades.
An active member of the First Baptist Richburg community since 2021, Terry found great joy in teaching Sunday School Bible Study, sharing his faith and love for Jesus with all who crossed his path. His jovial nature, infectious humor, and outgoing personality endeared him to everyone he met. Whether he was engaging in conversation about his faith or simply sharing a story, Terry's warmth and kindness left a lasting impression.
Terry's passions extended beyond his professional life. An avid outdoorsman, he embraced the beauty of nature through fishing, hunting, hiking, and rock collecting. As a skilled musician and singer, Terry lent his talents to several country and rock bands, enriching the lives of those who were fortunate enough to hear him play. His love for gardening and animals was evident in the care he provided, nurturing not just plants and creatures, but also the souls around him.
A service to celebrate Terry's remarkable life will be held on June 6, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Richburg, located at 165 N. Main Street, Richburg, SC 29729. The Clayton family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, SC, for their compassionate care, as well as to Pastor Ted Hodges and the entire church family at First Baptist Richburg for their unwavering support and love.
As we bid farewell to Terry, we hold onto the cherished memories and the laughter he brought into our lives. May his soul rest in peace, knowing he is in the loving embrace of Jesus, and may his legacy of love and kindness continue to inspire us all.
