March 14, 1939 — June 7, 2026

March 14, 1939 - June 7, 2026 It is with profound sadness, yet deep gratitude for a life well-lived, that we announce the passing of Terrence Joseph Lilly, who peacefully departed this world on June 7, 2026, at his home in West Palm Beach, Florida, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on March 14, 1939, in Lansing, Michigan, Terrence was the cherished son of Charles Lilly and Florence Nash along with his brothers, Charles, John, and Jim. Growing up in Kalamazoo, Michigan, it was during his time at St. Augustine High School in Kalamazoo that he met Carmen Lambert, a recent transplant from the Detroit area, who became the love of his life. Their union was a testament to enduring love and commitment, as they shared 64 beautiful years of marriage. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Dorothy and Joseph, who brought immense pride and joy to Terrence's life. After high school, Terrence pursued higher education with fervor, graduating with a B.A. from the University of Notre Dame in 1961. He continued his academic journey at the University of Michigan Law School, where he was elected to the Order of the Coif in recognition of his outstanding academic achievements. Despite his ties to Michigan, Terrence remained a die-hard Notre Dame Irish fan until the very end, always cheering passionately for his team. Terrence dedicated over six decades of his life to the practice of law. He began his career working alongside his father before establishing his own practice in the Kalamazoo area. Specializing in civil trial and employment law, Terrence was known for his unwavering commitment to helping individuals from all walks of life. His dry wit and ability to connect with people from all backgrounds made him not only a respected attorney but a beloved friend to many. Outside the courtroom, Terrence found joy in the tranquility of nature. He cherished weekends at the lake, fishing and creating treasured memories with his family. His grandsons, Charles "Alex," Tyler, and Jacob, were the light of his life, and he never missed an opportunity to support them in their various sporting events, from tennis to hockey and lacrosse. Terrence was a man of character, kindness, and compassion. He never met a kid or a dog he didn't like. He touched the lives of many, and his absence will be keenly felt by all who knew him. Terrence is survived by his devoted wife, Carmen, his children Dorothy (Ortez) and Joseph, their spouses Paul Ortez and Alison Lilly, his brothers John and Jim, and his three adored grandsons. He is predeceased by his parents and his brother Charles. As we say goodbye to a remarkable man, we find solace in the legacy of love and integrity he leaves behind. To honor his memory, the family requests that donations be made to a local charity of your choice, reflecting Terrence's lifelong commitment to helping others. We love you Dad and as always "Go Irish!". May your kind and sensitive soul rest in peace.
