It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Terrence D. Holmes, who departed this world peacefully on April 30, 2026, surrounded by his beloved family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on November 13, 1969, in the vibrant city of New Haven, Connecticut, Terrence was a beacon of love, strength, and resilience.
Terrence was the cherished son of Patricia Holmes and Robert Holmes, who instilled in him the values of compassion and tenacity. He was predeceased by his cousins Mark and William Brown, both of whom he held close to his heart as brothers. Terrence is survived by his seven devoted daughters: Patrice, Emani, Trajahi, Desinestinee, Shanetta, Laquanna, and Freda, as well as his cherished grandchildren, who brought endless joy to his life. His cousins Tara, Michelle, and Shawn Wiggins will forever remember his laughter and wisdom.
Educated in the New Haven public school system, Terrence attended Conte, Fair Haven, and Wilbur Cross before pursuing his passion for the open road at a CDL truck driving school. As an independent truck driver, Terrence found peace and clarity in the solitude of night drives, embracing the serenity and freedom of the open road.
Terrence's life was one of simplicity and profound joy in the everyday moments. He found solace in long walks through the park, where he delighted in the beauty of nature and the songs of birds. A keen lover of music, Terrence often found himself immersed in the soulful melodies of his favorite artist, Gerald Levert. His love for literature was evident in his admiration for the works of Donald Goines, whose books provided him with endless hours of reflection and escape.
Those who knew Terrence will remember him as a gentle soul who offered kindness and understanding to all he encountered. He possessed an infectious smile and a warm heart, characteristics that endeared him to friends and strangers alike. His legacy of love, courage, and unwavering spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to cross paths with him.
A service to celebrate Terrence's life will be held on June 5, 2026, at 2:00 PM at East Rock Park, located on Mitchell Drive. The family invites all who knew and loved Terrence to join them in honoring his memory and celebrating a life well-lived.
The family extends their sincere gratitude to the compassionate staff at Yale New Haven Hospital, whose care and support provided comfort during Terrence's final days. They also wish to express their heartfelt thanks to family and friends who have reached out during this difficult time.
