It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Terrence D. Holmes, a beloved father, brother, and friend, who left this world on April 30, 2026, in the comforting embrace of his loved ones at Yale New Haven Hospital. Born on November 13, 1969, in New Haven, Terrence was a beacon of warmth and generosity, whose presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Terrence was the cherished son of Robert and Patricia Holmes, and he is now reunited with his predeceased grandparents, Willie and Thelma Holmes, and Mrs. Addie Council Marable. He also joins his dear cousins, William Brown and Mark Marable, and his beloved Aunt Barbara Jean and Angie McNatt, who preceded him in death. Terrence was a man who valued family above all else, and he leaves behind a legacy of love and unity. He is survived by his former wife and lifelong friend, Valissa Kinnion, with whom he maintained a close and cherished friendship. His memory lives on in the hearts of his father, Robert Holmes, his brother John (DJ) Maclaurin, and his sister Dencia Williams. Terrence was a devoted father to his daughters Laquanna, Fredericka, Patrice, Destinee, Emani, Chana, and Taraji Holmes, who were his greatest pride and joy. His four grandchildren will carry forward the light of his spirit. Terrence's extended family held a special place in his heart, including his cousins Tara and Dion Wright, Shell Council, Shawn Wiggins, and Phil Holmes, with whom he shared countless memories and moments of joy. Educated in the New Haven school system, Terrence attended Conti, Fair Haven Middle School, and Wilbur Cross. He later embraced a career as an independent truck driver, a profession that allowed him to find peace and clarity on the open road, especially during his preferred night shifts. He loved the tranquility of the highways, where he felt free and connected to the world around him. Outside of his work, Terrence had a passion for basketball, often losing himself in the excitement of the game, whether on television or through his favorite YouTube channels. He enjoyed long walks in the park, where he took pleasure in watching birds and pondering their mysterious journeys. Music was a constant companion, with Gerald Levert as his favorite artist, providing the soundtrack to many of his days. Terrence also found solace and adventure in the pages of books by Donald Goines, an author he admired greatly. Terrence possessed a calming spirit and a generous heart. His laughter was infectious, and he was known for his humor and ability to bring joy to others. He was a man who would give his last dime or the shirt off his back to someone in need, a testament to his selflessness and compassion. As we remember Terrence, let us celebrate a life well-lived, a life marked by kindness, laughter, and unwavering love for family and friends. His memory will forever be a guiding light, reminding us of the importance of generosity, joy, and unconditional love. Though he is no longer with us, Terrence's spirit lives on in the hearts of those who loved him. May he rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love and gratitude of all who had the privilege to know him.
