In Loving Memory

Teresa Diane Hileman
December 17, 1958 — June 30, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Teresa Diane Hileman, a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend. Teresa departed this world peacefully on June 30, 2026, at Holston Valley Medical Center, following complications that she faced with her characteristic grace and strength. She was 67 years old.
Teresa was born on December 17, 1958, in Bristol, Tennessee, to the late Claude and Wilma Buckles. From a young age, Teresa exhibited a nurturing spirit and a genuine love for learning, qualities that defined her life and career. She graduated from Castlewood High School in 1976 and pursued her passion for education at East Tennessee State University, where she earned a degree in Elementary Education in 1982.
With a heart full of dedication, Teresa embarked on a fulfilling career as a third-grade teacher at Lebanon Elementary School, part of the Russell County School Board System. For over three decades, she touched countless young lives with her kindness, patience, and unwavering belief in the potential of each child who entered her classroom. Her influence extended far beyond the school walls, as she inspired both students and colleagues alike with her warm smile and infectious enthusiasm.
Teresa was preceded in death by her cherished parents, Claude and Wilma Buckles, and her dear brothers, Claude Buckles III and Gregory Buckles. She is survived by her devoted husband, David Hileman, with whom she shared a beautiful journey of love and partnership. Teresa's legacy lives on through her children, David Hileman Jr. and Jessica Hileman Braxton, who were the pride and joy of her life. She is also survived by her brothers, Lynn and Lee Buckles, who remember her as a loving sister and steadfast confidante.
Beyond her professional achievements, Teresa was a devoted member of her community, always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. Her warmth and compassion extended to all who knew her, and her genuine interest in the well-being of others was a hallmark of her character.
A service to celebrate Teresa's life will be held on July 3, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Owens Family Funeral Home in Gate City, Virginia. Friends and family are invited to gather to honor a remarkable woman whose impact will be felt for generations to come.
In these moments of reflection, we find solace in the memories of Teresa's laughter, her dedication to education, and the love she generously shared with those around her. Though she may no longer walk beside us, her spirit will continue to guide and inspire all who had the privilege to know her.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity supporting childhood education, a cause close to Teresa's heart. May her legacy of love and learning continue to flourish in the lives of those she touched.
