In loving memory of Ted Evans, who departed this world on June 20, 2026, after courageously battling heart and diabetic health challenges for many years. Ted was born on August 24, 1960, in Fayetteville, North Carolina, to the late Isaiah Evans and Mildred Evans. He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and unwavering dedication to family and community.
Ted's life was marked by his compassion and his steadfast commitment to those around him. He shared 18 wonderful years with his beloved wife, Deanna McNeill Evans, who stood by his side in every season of life. Together, they crafted a life filled with warmth, joy, and an unbreakable bond that inspired everyone who knew them.
Ted was a proud father to his daughter, Shantia Shears, who resides in Fayetteville, NC, and his three sons, Micheal (Johanna) in Florida, Aunta McNeill in Southern Pines, NC, and Randy (Kenata) in Georgia. His role as a father was one he cherished deeply, and he took immense pride in watching his children grow and thrive. His influence will continue through his seventeen grandchildren, each of whom he adored, with one sweet grandchild, Trevor, preceding him in death.
Ted was a dedicated brother to his two sisters, Denise L. Evans of Fayetteville, NC, and Maxine Leach of Spring Lake, NC, and a brother to Dennis J. Evans, also of Fayetteville, NC. His extended family included many nieces and nephews, including Joella Tibbs, Victoria Evans, Lisa Harris, Alvin Crew, Oliver Leach, Cornelius Patterson, Donnie Harris, Kenneth Harris, and Cordale Crew, as well as brother-in-laws Daniel and Chris, and sister-in-laws Linda Crew and Dwight Crew. His family was a testament to the deep roots and strong ties that he nurtured with love and care.
A graduate of Westover Senior High School in 1979, Ted was not only a football player but a devoted and hardworking individual. He found his calling in service to others, dedicating his career to the Cumberland County school system as a custodian and school bus driver. He further served as a bus driver at Fort Bragg Army Base, transporting soldiers with pride and respect. His love for driving extended to his role as the driver of the bingo van, a game he loved to play and share with others.
Ted was known for his private yet kind-hearted nature, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. He loved to travel, explore new places, and savor good food, adventures that brought him immense joy and fulfillment. He was a cornerstone in the lives of many, the glue that held the puzzle of his family and community together.
A service to celebrate Ted's life will be held on June 30, 2026, at 1:00 PM, at Cunningham & Sons Mortuary, located at 3809 Raeford Rd, Fayetteville, NC 28304. His family extends a special message of love and remembrance: "I love you and miss you, may angel wings carry you to your destiny." (Brother Dennis Evans). "Uncle Ted, you have fought a good fight. God was ready for a strong servant like you to watch over us. We love you to the moon and back." (Niece Lisa Harris).
Ted Evans will forever be remembered for his gentle spirit, enduring love, and the legacy of kindness he leaves behind. May he rest in peace, knowing he was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
