It is with heavy hearts and a profound sense of loss that we announce the passing of Tavel Lemel Tucker, a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. Born on April 12, 1969, in Washington, DC, Tavel brought joy and warmth to everyone he encountered throughout his life. He passed away after a courageous battle with an illness, leaving behind a legacy of love and compassion.
Tavel was the cherished son of the late Eileen Tucker and Cliff Haynesworth. He was predeceased by his loving parents, his brother Thomas Tucker, and his twin sister Mary Jane. Tavel's life was a tapestry of cherished relationships, woven with the love of his surviving family members: his devoted wife, Nadia Tucker, whom he married on May 10, 1987, and his treasured children, Danariah Tucker and Jason Tucker. He is also survived by his sisters, Eva and Yvonne Tucker, and his adoring nephews and nieces, Jayden Tucker, Diana Braxton, Chip Tucker, and Chris Tucker.
A proud alumnus of Thomas Jefferson High School, Tavel shared this educational journey with his siblings, a testament to the strong familial bonds that were central to his life. Professionally, he dedicated many years to the transportation system as a bus driver, where his infectious smile and charismatic swagger made him a beloved figure among colleagues and students alike.
Tavel's heart was filled with music and rhythm; he was known for his love of singing and dancing. His confident spirit was never overshadowed by selfishness. Instead, he was marked by an unwavering generosity and a genuine desire to uplift those around him. Tavel's heart was boundless, always open to family and friends, willing to give selflessly and lend support at every turn.
As we gather to honor Tavel's life, we remember him for the indelible impact he made on everyone he met. His service will be held on October 12, 2026, at 12:30 PM at the Nelsen Funeral Home.
