With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of Taras Peter Young, who left this world peacefully on May 20, 2026, surrounded by the love of his cherished family at his home. Born on June 10, 1953, in Detroit, Michigan, Tars, as he was affectionately known, lived a life filled with passion, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved. Taras was the beloved son of the late Julia Yulana Kowal and Peter Eugene Young. He was predeceased by his dear daughter, Alesha Christine Young; his brother, Dennis Theodore Young; and his devoted parents, Julia and Peter. He leaves behind his loving wife of 40 years, Jamie Marie Young, who stood by his side through thick and thin; his devoted son, Taylor Leighton Young, and his daughter-in-law, Tenaya Grace Young. Taras was also a proud grandfather to two wonderful grandchildren, who were the light of his life. In his early years, Taras excelled both academically and athletically, graduating from Newport Harbor High School in 1971, where he was a standout on the Varsity Football and Basketball teams. His talent on the court earned him a scholarship to California State University, Fullerton, where he played basketball and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science. Taras's professional journey began humbly as a busboy at Gulliver's Restaurant, but his dedication and charisma quickly propelled him through the ranks. He served as a server at La Fayette French Restaurant before embarking on a long and distinguished career at The Cannery of the Pacific. Over 29 years, Tars became a Dining Manager and Wine Buyer, a role in which he thrived for an additional 20 years, making everyone who entered feel welcomed and valued. Deeply rooted in his community, Tars was a respected coach in AYSO, Newport Junior Basketball, and Newport Harbor Baseball, where he found joy in coaching his son, Taylor. He was also an enthusiastic supporter of his daughter Alesha’s athletic endeavors, particularly her passion for soccer and volleyball. His love for sports extended beyond coaching; he was a basketball enthusiast who relished playing in the Laguna Beach Basketball League every summer weekend. Upon retiring, Tars embraced his love for Bridge by joining the Bridge Club at Oasis in Corona Del Mar. He cherished the camaraderie and challenge the game offered, forming many lasting friendships. Taras was known for his welcoming nature and the genuine care he showed to everyone he encountered. He possessed a competitive spirit, yet his primary aim was always to uplift those around him, whether on the basketball court or in life. A celebration of Taras's life will be held on July 17, 2026, at 10:00 AM at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, located at 600 St. Andrews Rd, Newport Beach, CA. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Tars are invited to join in honoring a remarkable man whose legacy will continue to inspire all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Tarsa's memory to a charity of your choice, reflecting his generous spirit and commitment to helping others.
