In Loving Memory

Tanbumwe Makurata
January 1, 1959 — June 2, 2026
We gather with heavy hearts yet enduring gratitude to honor the life of Tanbumwe Makurata, who passed away on June 2, 2026, at the age of 67. Born on January 1, 1959, in the vibrant town of Rutshuru in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Makurata lived a life marked by resilience, compassion, and unwavering faith.
Makurata was the beloved daughter of Buhuzu and Alivera, who instilled in her the values of kindness, hard work, and community service. Though she did not attend formal schooling, Makurata's wisdom and knowledge were vast, learned through life's experiences and her deep connection with those around her.
In her early years, Makurata made a significant move to Uganda, where she found her calling as a community midwife. With boundless empathy and skill, she dedicated herself to helping countless mothers through the profound journey of childbirth. Her gentle hands and comforting presence brought new life into the world and eased the burdens of many families. Her work was more than a career; it was a testament to her profound belief in the sanctity of life and her commitment to serving others.
Makurata was a devoted member of the Catholic Church, her faith a guiding light throughout her life. She was known for her kind heart, her role as a peacemaker, and her generosity in sharing with those in need. Her laughter and warmth were a balm to all who knew her, and she offered her love and support without hesitation.
The last three years of Makurata's life were a testament to her strength and spirit. She bravely battled illness, supported by her family's unwavering love and the tireless efforts of dedicated medical professionals. Despite their best efforts, Makurata succumbed to hepatic failure. She passed peacefully at 2:00 AM, surrounded by the love of her family.
Makurata's legacy lives on in her surviving family members: Nirere Jean Nepomcen, Twizerimana Charles, Robert Ngendo, Nyanzira Francoise, Uwimana Beatrice, and Uwamahoro Anoirite. She was a proud grandmother to 37 grandchildren, each carrying forward her spirit of love and community.
The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to all who supported Makurata during her illness: doctors, nurses, social workers, case managers, and the many friends and relatives who offered their love and prayers. Your efforts and compassion are deeply appreciated, and we ask that God bless each of you.
As we bid farewell to Makurata, we take comfort in our faith, trusting that she rests in peace and eternal life. She lived as a devoted Christian, and her light will continue to shine in our hearts and memories.
A celebration of Makurata's life will be held at a later date, with details to be completed. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to organizations that reflect Makurata's spirit of giving and service.
May her soul find eternal rest, and may her legacy of love and kindness inspire us all.
