September 5, 1969 — March 25, 2026

With profound love and cherished memories, we celebrate the life of Tammy R. Yancy Benton, who passed away peacefully on March 25, 2026, at the age of 56. Born on September 5, 1969, in the vibrant city of Phoenix, Arizona, Tammy was a beacon of joy and warmth to all who knew her. Tammy was the beloved daughter of Neverly Yancy Childs, who survives her, and she grew up alongside her brother, Rodney Mages, and sister, Eva Cornell, with whom she shared countless adventures and an unbreakable bond. Her family was her world, and she carried her love for them in everything she did. On February 23, 1999, Tammy married the love of her life, Sam Benton. Together, they built a beautiful family and shared 33 years of unwavering partnership and devotion. Tammy was a devoted mother to Sheldon J. Benton and Amber R. Benton, and she treasured every moment spent with them. Her greatest joy was being a grandmother to Emagen March, whose laughter and spirit brought immeasurable happiness to Tammy's life. Tammy's heart was forever touched by the memory of her son, Derrick O. Wilson, who predeceased her. She found strength in her faith and the love of her family and friends, including a host of nieces, nephews, and cherished companions who will continue to celebrate her legacy. A proud alumna of Central High School, class of 1988, Tammy pursued her passion for learning throughout her life. She earned a Certificate in Food Service Management and Business Movement Marketable Skills in 2013, and later attained an Associate in Applied Science from Amarillo College in 2016. Her dedication to education was matched only by her commitment to her career. For 22 years, Tammy served as a Food Severance Manager at VVS Canteen in Tyson Foods, where she was known for her exceptional leadership and kindness. Her colleagues remember her not only for her professional skills but also for her warm smile and generous heart. Tammy was an active and devoted member of Greater Mount Olive Baptist Church, where she found a community of faith and friendship. Her passion for cooking, music, dancing, and fashion was infectious, and she delighted in creating memories with family and friends. Her love for life was a light that brightened the lives of everyone around her. A celebration of Tammy's life will take place on April 11, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Greater Mount Olive Baptist Church, located at 1215 N Hughes St, Amarillo, TX 79107. Friends and family are invited to gather in honor of a remarkable woman whose spirit and love will forever endure. Tammy R. Yancy Benton will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, kindness, and joy will continue to inspire all who knew her. As we say goodbye, we hold her memory close, grateful for the time we shared and the love she so freely gave.
