It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Tabitha Totten, a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, who departed this world unexpectedly due to a heart condition on April 13, 2026. Born on December 12, 1968, in Angola, Indiana, Tabitha's life was a testament to love, kindness, and dedication, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her. Born to Theodore Shaw and Judith Lycas, Tabitha grew up in a large and loving family. Her life was enriched by the bonds she shared with her siblings: Charles Shaw, Debra Waples, Dora Dilly, John Shaw, Theodora Shaw, Candace Schaunaman, Deanna Green, Michelle Mckinney-Helpling, Athena Schakel, Dennis Fry Jr, and Tonya Fry. She was predeceased by her sister, Tina Shaw, whose memory she cherished deeply. Tabitha's journey in life was beautifully intertwined with her husband, James Totten Sr. The couple married on September 12, 1987, in Indianapolis, Indiana, and spent 38 wonderful years together. Their union was blessed with three sons, Carl Reynolds, James Totten Jr, and Sean Totten, each of whom she adored and nurtured with unwavering love and devotion. A woman of great intellect and ambition, Tabitha pursued her education with determination, completing an Administrative Associate degree from Harrison College in 2011. Her career was marked by dedication and service, having held numerous positions within the local government for 14 years. She was a respected Supervisor for the Marion County Clerks office, an administrator for IN Foster Care, and an agent for the IN Department of Child Services. More recently, she served as a Production Team Leader for One Solution Logistics at Honda for over seven years, where her leadership was celebrated and admired. Tabitha's zest for life was evident in her passions. She was an avid book reader, finding joy and solace within the pages of countless stories. Her love for board games and family activities was infectious, bringing laughter and camaraderie to every gathering. A devoted animal lover, she welcomed many four-legged friends into her home, each one becoming a cherished member of the family. Her commitment to her community was unwavering, as she dedicated countless hours to volunteer work, constantly striving to make a positive impact. Tabitha's generosity of spirit and her ability to connect with others made her a pillar of strength and a loyal friend to many. As we gather to celebrate the life of Tabitha Totten, we invite all who knew and loved her to join us on April 25, 2026, at 1:00 PM for a memorial service at Oakley Hammond Funeral Home, located at 5342 E. Washington St. It is here that we will honor her remarkable life, sharing memories and offering comfort to one another in this time of loss. Though she has left this earthly realm, Tabitha's spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her. Her legacy of kindness, love, and community service will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in eternal peace, her memory a beacon of light guiding us forward.
