Sylvia Boston May 25, 1947 – May 16, 2026 It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Sylvia Boston, who left this world peacefully on May 16, 2026, at her home in Charlottesville, Virginia. Sylvia was surrounded by her loving family, drawing her last breath with the comfort of those she held dear, after bravely battling Lewy body dementia. Born on May 25, 1947, to the late Hugh and Cornelius Goodwin, Sylvia was raised in the warm embrace of Charlottesville. She was predeceased by her brothers Hugh, Phil, and Eric, and her beloved life partner, Jim Livingston. She leaves behind a rich legacy of love, laughter, and indelible memories. Sylvia is survived by her cherished child, John Cooper, and his wife Nichole; her sisters, Sara Matthews, Connie Whitcomb, and Ginny Haney; and her three adored grandchildren, William, Rachel, and Harley Cooper. Her extended family includes numerous nieces, nephews, and countless friends who became family over the years. Throughout her career, Sylvia dedicated herself to serving the community through her work in the juvenile domestic courts, where her compassionate spirit touched the lives of many young individuals and families. A devoted member of the Rhoadesville Baptist Church, Sylvia's faith was a guiding light in her life, offering her strength and solace throughout her journey. Sylvia's vibrant personality shone through her community involvement, notably in her longtime participation with the Ruitans Club. Her retirement years were enriched by volunteering at the local visitor center and food bank, where her kindness and generosity continued to impact lives. An avid gardener, Sylvia found her peace in the simple joys of nature, spending countless hours tending to her beloved flowers. Her innate connection to the earth and its creatures was reflected in her unwavering love for animals, a passion that led her to support numerous animal welfare organizations. Sylvia's gift for conversation was renowned, as she loved nothing more than to engage with people, spreading warmth and joy wherever she went. Her legacy is one of love, laughter, and a profound commitment to bettering the lives of others. In honor of Sylvia's life and her steadfast dedication to service, the family requests that donations be made to Generations Central, a place that provided immense support and care to Sylvia and her family. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Generations Central and Hospice of the Piedmont for their compassionate care during Sylvia's final days. A celebration of Sylvia's life will be held at a later date, providing an opportunity for all who knew and loved her to gather in remembrance and gratitude for the beautiful life she led.
