Sylvia G Boston

May 25, 1947 — May 16, 2026

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Sylvis Boston, a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who departed this world on May 16, 2026. Sylvis passed away peacefully at home in the loving presence of her family, having faced the challenges of Lewy body dementia with courage and grace. Born on May 25, 1947, in Gordonsville, Virginia, Sylvis was the beloved daughter of Hugh and Cornelius Goodwin. She was predeceased by her parents, her brothers Hugh Phil and Eric, and her dear companion, Jim Livingston. Sylvis leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will be remembered and cherished by her surviving family: her cherished child John Cooper and his wife Nichole, her devoted sisters Sara Matthews, Connie Whitcomb, and Ginny Haney, and her adored grandchildren, William, Rachel, and Harley Cooper. Her extended family of nieces and nephews will also hold her memory close. Sylvis dedicated her professional life to serving others, working within the juvenile domestic courts over the years. Her commitment to justice and compassion for those in need made a lasting impact on her community. As a longtime member of Rhoadesville Baptist Church and a dedicated participant in the Ruritans Club, Sylvis found joy in fellowship and service. In her retirement, she continued to give back, volunteering at the local visitor center and food bank, sharing her warmth and generosity with all who crossed her path. Sylvis had a profound love for the outdoors, finding peace and happiness in planting and tending to her beloved flowers. Her garden was a reflection of her vibrant spirit and the care she extended to those around her. Known for her love of people and her gift of conversation, Sylvis brought laughter and joy wherever she went. Her unwavering love for animals was a testament to her gentle soul, and she supported numerous organizations dedicated to their care. In honor of Sylvis's life and commitment to service, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Generations Central, an organization dear to her heart. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Generations Central for their unwavering support and love shown to Sylvis and her family. A special thank you is also extended to Hospice of the Piedmont for their compassionate care during her final days. As we gather to celebrate Sylvis's life, let us remember her as a beacon of love, kindness, and resilience. Her memory will forever bloom in our hearts, just as her beloved flowers do each spring. May she rest in peace, embraced by the warmth of God's eternal love.
