Sylvia Louise (Williams) Dixon, affectionately known as "Baby Sis," passed away peacefully on the morning of May 31, 2026, at the age of 82, as she was preparing to make her way to church to teach her beloved Sunday School class. Her passing marks the end of a remarkable journey that began on June 30, 1943, in Indianapolis, Indiana, where she was born to the late Ernest Williams Sr. and Alice Mae (Satterfield) Williams. Sylvia was preceded in death by her cherished parents and siblings Ernest Williams Jr., Ocie Williams, and Michael Williams. She is survived by her devoted husband of 36 years, London H. Dixon Sr., with whom she shared a life filled with love, family, faith, and commitment. Their marriage on June 9, 1990, was a beautiful blending of families, celebrated with all their children participating in the wedding party. Sylvia was a nurturing mother to Lavennia L. Martin (Henry), Elise L. Legge, Tracey L. Legge, Scott V. Legge (Dana), and Frankie D. Vance (William), all of whom reside in Indianapolis, Indiana, except for Lavennia, who lives in Texarkana, Texas. She was also a beloved sister to Donald L. Williams (Mary), Rev Sterling L. Williams (Carol), and Frieda L. Johnson (Larry). Additionally, she leaves behind step-children Robert Dixon, London H. Dixon Jr. (Tony), Jerry Dixon, and Adrienne Alexander. Her legacy extends to 14 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 17 step-grandchildren, and 19 step-great-grandchildren, each one a testament to her enduring love and influence. Sylvia's education journey saw her attend Public School #37, Arsenal Technical High School, and Crispus Attucks High School in Indianapolis, where she was a phenomenal cheerleader and demonstrated exceptional intelligence. She worked diligently at RCA before retiring from the Indiana School for the Deaf, where she left an indelible mark through her dedication and compassion. An active member of Greater Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church for over 55 years, Sylvia was a pillar of her community. She inspired the youth through the Junior Choir, the Inspirational Choir, and the Drill team. Her leadership as president of the Pastor's Aid Committee and her unparalleled skills as the "Kitchen Lady" of the Culinary department are fondly remembered. Her devotion to teaching the adult Sunday School class was unwavering until her transition. Sylvia's passions were as vibrant as her spirit. An avid botanist, she cultivated indoor and outdoor plants with the same care she gave to her relationships. She delighted in baking cakes for special occasions, and her competitive spirit shone through in family game nights. Most of all, she cherished studying the scriptures, ensuring her teachings were always relevant and impactful. Sylvia was known for her quick wit, warm smile, and the gift of making everyone feel welcomed. Her kindness and generosity touched countless lives, always championing the underdog and never hesitating to speak her truth. A celebration of Sylvia's life will be held on June 13, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Greater Morning Star Baptist Church, located at 519 E. 23rd Street, Indianapolis, IN 46205. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the many acts of kindness shown during this time of sorrow. Your gestures of love, support, and prayers have provided strength and comfort as they honor the life, legacy, and memory of their beloved Sylvia.
