Celebrating the Life of Sylvia Jean Crenshaw Sylvia Jean Crenshaw, a beacon of kindness and compassion, peacefully departed this world on May 15, 2026, at the age of 76. Born on November 16, 1949, in the charming town of Greenville, Alabama, Sylvia was the cherished daughter of the late John and Bertha Mae Johnson. Her early life was filled with love and laughter alongside her two brothers, Johnny Green and John W. Johnson, who predeceased her. Sylvia's journey of love and devotion began when she married her soulmate, Fred Crenshaw, on August 2, 1969. Together, they crafted a beautiful life, graced with the warmth of family and the joy of shared dreams. Sylvia is survived by her beloved husband, Fred, her treasured daughter, Felicia, and her stepchildren, Angeline and Fredrick (Linda). Her legacy endures through her three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, who will forever carry forward her spirit of generosity and joy. Sylvia's life was a tapestry of dedication and service. A proud graduate of South Side High School in Greenville, she pursued her passion for helping others by earning a degree in nursing. Her 25-year career as a registered nurse at various hospitals was marked by tireless commitment and an unmatched capacity for empathy. Sylvia's nurturing spirit extended beyond her professional life; in 2000, she and her daughter, Felicia, opened a daycare, which they lovingly operated until 2011. A woman of deep faith, Sylvia accepted the Lord Jesus Christ at an early age at Harrison Street Baptist Church in Greenville. Her faith journey continued when she and Fred moved to California in 1969, joining New Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. In 2011, the family relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, where they became cherished members of the New Calvary MBC community. Sylvia’s talents were as varied as they were impressive. Known for her exceptional skills as a seamstress, she had a knack for turning simple fabrics into works of art. Her heart of gold was evident in her willingness to help anyone in need, always ready with a joke and a radiant smile that could light up any room. Sylvia is also survived by her loving sister, Belinda Russell, with whom she shared a bond that time and distance could never diminish. Together, Sylvia and her family created a legacy of love and laughter that touched countless lives. A celebration of Sylvia's life will be held on May 28, 2026, at New Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, located at 2751 Donald Lee Hollowell Pkwy NW, Atlanta, GA 30318.
