September 5, 1966 — July 11, 2026

Sylvia Deloris Brown, a cherished soul who graced this world with her presence, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2026, at the age of 59. Born on September 5, 1966, in Jacksonville, Florida, Sylvia was the beloved daughter of the late Edward Brown and Minerva Jones Brown-Platt. Sylvia's life was a tapestry of love, dedication, and community spirit. She was a proud graduate of the Duval County School System, completing her studies at Englewood High School. Her passion for nurturing young minds led her to a distinguished career as a Lead Teacher at All Saints Early Learning Center, where she inspired countless children for thirty-one years. A devoted member of the Southside Church of God in Christ, Sylvia served faithfully under the leadership of Bishop Edward Robinson, Sr. Her commitment was further exemplified in her service on the Bishop's Super Ushers Board. Sylvia’s vibrant spirit and enthusiasm also shone brightly at Englewood High School, where she was celebrated as the "Best scoreboard keeper to ever live" for over twenty-six years as a member of the Booster Club. Sylvia's life was enriched by her many passions, including shopping, watching sports, playing cards, and attending her grandchildren's games. Her love for reggae music was a testament to her joyful spirit, and she cherished every moment spent with her family. Sylvia's kindness and warmth touched everyone she met. She was a loving and caring mother to her children, Shanell Brown, Carnell Brown, and Shawntell Brown (Chris), and a doting grandmother to Chelsea Gray and Chris Gray, Jr. Her godchildren, Anthony Mobley, Jr. and Indeica Drake, also held a special place in her heart. She is survived by her siblings, James Brown, Dan Brown (Cecilia), Sharon Wilson, Maria Annette Copeland, Angela Brown, Vanessa Brown, Alonzo Brown (Theresa), and Patricia Bates. Her best friend, Vermonica Beale, along with fourteen nieces, twelve nephews, a host of cousins, other relatives, and many dear friends, will forever cherish her memory. Sylvia was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Minerva, her brothers, Charles and Michael Brown, her sister, Cathy Brown, two nephews, one great nephew, and a host of aunts and uncles. A private funeral service will be held to honor Sylvia's life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in her memory, celebrating her generous spirit and lifelong commitment to helping others. Sylvia Deloris Brown's legacy of love, dedication, and community will continue to inspire all who were privileged to know her.
