With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of Sylvia Enid Belisle, a cherished mother, grandmother, and friend, who left this world peacefully on March 13, 2026, at the age of 63. Sylvia's final moments were spent surrounded by the warmth and love of her family, a testament to the deep connections she cherished throughout her life.
Sylvia was born on November 11, 1962, in the picturesque town of Arroyo, Puerto Rico, and was lovingly raised in nearby Guayama. Her journey through life was marked by a spirit of adventure and a profound dedication to those she loved. In 1982, Sylvia ventured to the United States, initially settling in Connecticut before making Staten Island her home in 1986. It was here that she built a life centered around service, community, and family.
Throughout her career, Sylvia served as a representative for two prominent health insurance companies, where she made a significant impact by helping countless individuals secure the health coverage they needed. Her work was not just a job; it was a calling that reflected her deep commitment to helping others, particularly within the Hispanic community. Sylvia took great pride in her ability to bridge language barriers, offering translation assistance to ensure everyone could access the care they deserved.
Sylvia was a woman whose infectious smile and warm personality left an indelible mark on everyone she met. Her love for people was evident in her active involvement with various churches throughout Staten Island, where she found solace and purpose in spiritual community. Her devotion to faith and fellowship inspired many and created lasting bonds among those who knew her.
Family was at the heart of Sylvia's world, and nothing brought her more joy than her role as a grandmother to her beloved 16 grandchildren. Holidays were a special time, marked by her exceptional culinary skills and the warmth of her home. Sylvia's baking and cooking were legendary, and her gatherings were filled with laughter, love, and the comforting aroma of her kitchen creations.
Sylvia's loving spirit is carried forward by her five children, Tania, Jose, Daly, Josie, and Ghislaine. Her legacy of kindness, compassion, and resilience lives on in them and in the lives of her grandchildren, who will forever cherish her memory.
She is also survived by her parents, Edicto Gual and Sylvia Navarro, who instilled in her the values of love and community that she passed on to her family.
Sylvia's life will be celebrated in a service at the John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, located at 28 Eltingville Blvd., Staten Island, NY. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Sylvia are invited to gather in remembrance of a truly remarkable woman.
Sylvia Enid Belisle's presence in this world was a gift to all who knew her. Her legacy of love, service, and unwavering dedication to family and community will continue to inspire and guide us. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those she loved.
