Sylvester Pace

March 25, 1945 — May 28, 2026

Sylvester Pace, affectionately known to many as "Sy," peacefully departed this world on May 28, 2026, in the comfort of his New York, NY, home after a courageous battle with a terminal illness. Born on March 25, 1945, in Macon, Georgia, Sy lived a life characterized by warmth, compassion, and an indomitable spirit. Sy was the beloved son of the late Sylvester and Jean Pace, and he was preceded in death by his cherished sisters Eileen Pace and Zelma Pace, as well as his great-niece, Shayvon Henry. He is now reunited with his late life partner, Howard Dunhouser, in eternal peace. Sy's legacy of love and kindness lives on through his surviving family: his devoted sister Elizabeth Goodwin of Brooklyn, NY; his loving niece Lashawn Pace of Bronx, NY; his great-nephews Carl, Kevin, and Derrin of Utica, NY, along with their families; and his great-niece Safiya Lilley of Boston, MA, and her family. He leaves behind a host of close friends and extended family members who were touched by his generous heart. Throughout his life, Sy dedicated himself to the service of others. He had a fulfilling career with the Red Cross, where his compassion shone through as he worked as a nurse and later as a home health aide. His professional life was a testament to his selfless nature, always putting the needs of others before his own. Outside of work, Sy was a man of many passions, relishing the simple joys of life. He found serenity in the open road, often taking long drives on his beloved motorcycle. Summers were spent on the water, fishing and boating, where he felt most at peace with the world. Sy's personal qualities were truly one of a kind. His caring and loving nature knew no bounds; he was the type of person who would gladly give you the shirt off his back or his last dollar if it meant easing your burden. His home was a sanctuary for many during difficult times, and his unwavering generosity and kindness left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. A celebration of Sy's life will take place on June 1, 2026, at 6:00 PM at South Road Tabernacle, located at 753 Lexington Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11221. Family and friends are invited to gather and honor the extraordinary life of a man who gave so much to so many. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Harmony Funeral Home in Brooklyn and South Road Tabernacle for their service, kindness, and hospitality during this difficult time. Your support has been a comforting light in our time of sorrow. As we say goodbye to Sy, we hold close the memory of his infectious smile, his unwavering love, and the profound impact he had on all our lives. Rest in peace, dear Sy; your legacy of love will forever remain in our hearts.
