Sydney Johnson
January 14, 1967 — March 19, 2026
With profound sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Sydney Johnson, a cherished husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend, who left this world peacefully on March 19, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. Sydney was surrounded by his loving family in the comfort of his home in Rome, Georgia, a place where his life began on January 14, 1967.
Sydney was the beloved son of Mary H. Johnson and the late Roy Johnson Jr. He was predeceased by his father and his paternal grandparents, Roy Sr. and Mary Johnson, as well as his maternal grandparents, Frances Hamilton Camp and John Hamilton, Maternal Aunt, Eunice Monford and Mother in law Sandra Welch. Sydney is survived by his devoted wife, Sara Johnson, with whom he shared a deep and abiding love long before their marriage in 2003. Together, they raised three extraordinary sons, Gabriel, Roman, and Samuel, who were his pride and joy. Sydney also leaves behind his beloved daughter, Patricia Oten.
Sydney is also survived by his loving mother, Mary Johnson; brother, Carlton Johnson; and sister-in-law, Shelley Johnson. His cherished nephews, Cameron Johnson (Austin) and Corey Wells, and his great-niece, Haven Johnson, will always remember his warmth and kindness. Sydney was also very close to his sister-in-law, Sandy Welch Murchison (Kevin), and niece, Kate Murchison, as well as his Aunt Jessie Ruth Sheppard and Uncle Richard Hamilton. His many beloved cousins and special family friend, Mr. John Martin, will carry his spirit in their hearts.
As a graduate of West Rome High School and Georgia State University, where he earned degrees in business and real estate, Sydney was a man of intelligence and integrity. He dedicated himself to his family and his community, always eager to lend a helping hand. Known for a genuine smile that could light up any room, Sydney was the embodiment of positivity and perseverance, even in the face of adversity.
He found joy in coaching his sons and their friends in various sports, becoming a father figure to many young men. The Johnson home was a haven of laughter and love, often bustling with the energy of children and friends. Sydney and his family were active members of the Mt Paran North Church of God, where he contributed significantly to the children and youth ministry, sharing his faith and wisdom with countless others.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to his sister-in-law, Shelley Johnson, cousin Adrian Whatley , and friend John Martin for their unwavering support during Sydney's medical appointments and treatments. Special thanks are also due to the dedicated staff at Heyman Hospice for their compassionate care and guidance in Sydney's final weeks.
A celebration of Sydney's extraordinary life will be held on March 27, 2026, at 1:00 PM. At Life of Jesus in Action Holiness Church, 218 Old Airport Rd Rome Ga. His family invites all those who were touched by his kindness and love to join them in honoring his memory.
Sydney's legacy will continue in the hearts of those who knew him, as a beacon of grace, love, and enduring faith. May he rest in eternal peace, embraced by the warmth of God's love.
