Sybil Sweeny

September 1, 1942 — October 28, 2026

Sybil Sweeny, a beloved mother, sister, friend, and teacher, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2026, after a long and brave battle with Alzheimer's, with her two devoted sons by her side. Born on September 1, 1942, in Detroit, Michigan, Sybil was the cherished daughter of Aloysius and Mary Kuczynski. Sybil's life was a testament to love, compassion, and resilience. She was predeceased by her dear sister Francine Kuczynski, her parents, her brother Carl Kuczynski, and her nephew Ben Griffith. Her legacy continues to shine through her surviving family: her sons Quinn and Adam Sweeny, her sister Bernadette Senn and brother-in-law Larry Senn, her brother Chris Kuczynski and sister-in-law Charlotte Temple, her sister Mary Griffith and brother-in-law Pat Griffith, along with her cherished nephews Patrick Griffith, Ethan Kuczynski, Logan Senn, and her beloved niece Kendra Senn. Sybil's academic journey began at Mercy High School, from which she graduated in 1960, and continued at Mercy College, where she earned a double major in education and drama in 1964. Her teaching career included a remarkable period spent teaching elementary school on an Air Force Base in Japan during the Vietnam War, a testament to her dedication and adventurous spirit. Sybil's professional path took her from the classroom to the corporate world, where she excelled as an award-winning marketing and sales professional at Ralston Purina for 17 years. She returned to her educational roots before retiring, sharing her wisdom and kindness with students at Cherry Hill Charter School in Detroit. Beyond her professional achievements, Sybil was a woman of many passions. She found joy in the arts and crafts, particularly in stained glass, writing, and painting. Her love for "thrifting" was a constant adventure, one she pursued with enthusiasm and flair. Sybil's heart was her greatest attribute; she was kind, caring, compassionate, and empathetic, always prioritizing the needs of others. Her supportive and strong presence was a beacon of love and understanding for everyone she encountered. A memorial service to celebrate Sybil's life will be held on November 10, 2026, at 11:00 PM at the Heritage-Dilday Funeral Home, located at 17911 Beach Blvd, Huntington Beach, CA 92647. Those wishing to honor Sybil's memory are encouraged to make donations to a charity of their choice. As Sybil often said, "We'll cross that bridge when we come to it." Her family holds this sentiment close, remembering her as a guiding light in their lives. Sybil Sweeny will be profoundly missed, but her spirit and love will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, the family of Sybil Sweeny welcomes donations to a charity, nonprofit, church, or organization of your choosing.
