Susan Welch

August 18, 1959 — May 19, 2026

Susan Welch, a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, peacefully passed away on May 19, 2026, at the age of 66, after an inspiring and courageous battle with brain cancer. Born on August 18, 1959, in Elkins, West Virginia, Susan was the cherished daughter of Bud and Sue McCrobie, who instilled in her the values of compassion and kindness that she carried throughout her life. Susan dedicated her life to the love and care of others, most notably through her 20-year career running a daycare out of her home. To the many children who passed through her doors, she was affectionately known as "Maw," and each child became an integral part of her extended family. Her home was a haven of laughter and warmth, where everyone was welcomed with open arms and often left with a smile, courtesy of Susan's quick wit and ever-present jokes. Her marriage to Robert Welch, known lovingly as Rob, spanned 33 beautiful years. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and resilience. Rob was her steadfast partner and the love of her life. The couple shared the joy of raising their son, Trevor Welch, who was the center of Susan's world until his untimely passing. Susan’s strength and warmth also embraced her bonus daughters, Brandi Ward, Brianna Gilbert (Barnes), and Kimberly Parker, who she loved as her own. Family was the cornerstone of Susan's existence. She treasured her relationships with her siblings, her sister Lisa (Dave), and her brother Richard (Isabelle), with whom she shared countless memories and adventures. She was also adored by her "favorite" niece and nephews, who will forever remember her infectious laughter and loving presence. Her legacy continues through her four grandchildren, who brought immense joy and light into her life. Susan was a beacon of hope and humor even in the most challenging times. Her ability to find joy in the simple moments and her unwavering dedication to those she loved will be deeply missed. Her capacity to make everyone feel like family leaves an indelible mark on all who knew her. A celebration of Susan's extraordinary life will be held on May 27, 2026, at 6:00 PM at Brown's Funeral Home South Berkeley Chapel. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Susan are invited to honor her memory and the incredible love she shared with the world. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Susan's memory to a charity of your choice, reflecting her generous spirit and lifelong commitment to helping others. Susan Welch's legacy is one of love, laughter, and unwavering strength. She leaves behind a world made better by her presence and a family eternally grateful for having had her as their guiding light.
