Susan Nelson, a cherished soul known for her boundless kindness and unwavering love, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2026, at the age of 72. Surrounded by the compassionate care of the Friendship Village Hospice of the Valley in Tempe, AZ, Susan's gentle spirit departed this world, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and selflessness.
Born on May 11, 1953, in Crookston, MN, Susan was the beloved daughter of Jearld and Marion Kaltenberg. She grew up in a family full of love and laughter alongside her siblings, Richard, Gary, Doug, and Connie. Susan's life was marked by a profound dedication to those she loved and a remarkable ability to spread happiness wherever she went.
In 1975, Susan married the love of her life, Rodger Nelson, on a beautiful summer day, July 11. Together, they built a life filled with love and adventure until Rodger's passing in 2019. Their marriage was a beacon of devotion, marked by a deep partnership and mutual respect that was admired by all who knew them.
Susan found purpose and joy in her career as a medical secretary at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, AZ. Her colleagues remember her as remarkably helpful and always willing to go the extra mile to ensure that patients and coworkers alike felt cared for and supported. Her dedication to her work was matched only by her love for her family and friends.
A woman of many talents, Susan had a passion for reading and crafting, particularly the art of card-making. Her handmade cards were treasured by recipients and served as a testament to her thoughtfulness and creativity. Susan's crafts were a reflection of her heart, each one a unique embodiment of her desire to bring joy to others.
Susan's life was a tapestry of love, woven with threads of kindness and generosity. She is survived by her daughter, Sarah Pyle, and her husband, Zach; her son, Scott Nelson; her precious grandchildren, Cathal and Dawn Pyle; and her siblings, Richard, Gary, Doug, and Connie. Though her beloved husband, Rodger, her brother David, and her parents, Jearld and Marion, have predeceased her, Susan's spirit remains a comforting presence in the hearts of her family and friends.
A celebration of Susan's life will be held on May 24, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Lakeshore Mortuary, located at 1815 S. Dobson Rd, Mesa, AZ 85202. Family, friends, and all those whose lives were touched by Susan are invited to gather in remembrance of a life beautifully lived.
