Susan Marie Humiston

Susan Marie Humiston, a beacon of kindness and integrity, passed away leaving a profound legacy of compassion and dedication. Born on August 9, 1969, in Grand Island, Nebraska, Susan was the beloved daughter of Judy E. Stoltenberg-Humiston and the late Robert M. Humiston. Her life's journey was deeply intertwined with her cherished family, including her son Andrej Humiston, her loving mother Judy, and her siblings Sharon Dreher and her husband Mark, Kevin Humiston and his wife Amanda. She was also a dear aunt to her nephews and niece: Dylan, Anthony, Megan, and Ben. Susan's academic achievements were a testament to her keen intellect and unyielding determination. She graduated salutatorian from Northwest High School in Grand Island, Nebraska in 1987. She pursued her love for history at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, earning her Bachelor's degree in 1991. Susan's passion for justice led her to the Iowa School of Law, where she obtained her Juris Doctorate in 1994. Her professional career was marked by excellence and leadership. Beginning as a clerk for Judge David Dody in Minneapolis, Susan's talent and dedication quickly propelled her to prominent roles at Leonard Street and Deinard, and later as the First Vice President and Head of Litigation at Alliant Techsystems (ATK) . In 2016, she brought her expertise and integrity to the role of Director of the Minnesota Office of Lawyers Professional Responsibility and Client Security Board. Susan was respected not only for her legal acumen but also for her commitment to the profession, regularly contributing to continuing legal education programs and maintaining a long-standing column in the Bench and Bar of Minnesota. Outside the courtroom, Susan's life was enriched by her dedication to service and community. She was the President of the Board for the Minnesota Boy Choir and the board chair of Doing Good Together. Her love for nature and flowers, and her passion for reading, provided her with endless joy and reflection. Susan was a woman of great compassion and fairness, qualities that defined her relationships and her work. Her warmth and empathy touched the lives of her family, friends, and countless colleagues. She leaves behind a legacy of love and integrity that will continue to inspire those who knew her. Graveside services for interment will be held at Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN on Saturday, September 19th, 2026 at 1pm with a luminary ceremony to follow that evening. Complimentary tickets for the luminary ceremony may be requested through the Lakewood Cemetery website and must be obtained in advance prior to Wednesday Sept 16th. The family kindly suggests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Susan's memory, honoring her spirit of giving and community service. Susan will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her memory will forever remain in our hearts.
