It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Susan Lorado Isley, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Susan's vibrant spirit left this world on May 6, 2026, after a courageous battle with cirrhosis, at the age of 76. Born on October 31, 1949, in Fairmont, West Virginia, Susan's life was a testament to resilience, love, and a uniquely infectious joy.
Susan was the cherished daughter of the late Marion and Alma Rutherford, and she was predeceased by her beloved sisters, Marian Hardy and Stella (Becky) Rutherford. She was a loving mother to her son, Richard E. Isley, Jr., and daughter-in-law, Carina D. Isley, who survive her along with their family. Susan leaves behind her treasured grandson, Kyle Isley, and step-grandchildren, Nichole Gagnon (and husband Mike) and Michelle McKinney (and husband Dylan). She also adored her great-grandchildren, Kalista Gagnon and Cecelia McKinney, who brought her immense joy and laughter.
A proud graduate of Ellet High School, Class of 1968, Susan went on to build a meaningful career, retiring from Giant Eagle after years of dedicated service. Beyond her professional achievements, Susan was known for her warmth and creativity, particularly in the kitchen. Her Christmas cookies were legendary, a sweet tradition that brought family and friends together year after year.
Those who knew Susan will remember her for her infectious laugh and smile, which could light up the room. Her playful spirit was especially evident on Halloween, her birthday, when she donned her iconic witch's hat to the delight of neighborhood children, passing out candy and sharing in the festive spirit.
Susan's legacy is one of kindness, generosity, and a zest for life that inspired all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her love for her family was the cornerstone of her existence, and she found immense pride and joy in her role as a grandmother and great-grandmother.
A celebration of Susan's life will be held on June 6, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Tomlinson Run State Park, located at 3391 Veterans Blvd, New Cumberland, WV 26047. In a fitting tribute to Susan's adventurous spirit, her family invites all who loved her to join in a hike and the spreading of her ashes, rain or shine. This gathering will be an opportunity to honor Susan's memory in the natural beauty she cherished.
Susan Lorado Isley will be dearly missed by her surviving family members, including numerous nieces and nephews, and the many friends she made throughout her life. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved her, and her memory will continue to bring comfort and joy.
